Official Squatch Watchers

My sweetest of Sweet Squatchers. My heart is so very sad for you all. I keep hoping and sending out good thoughts and vibes to everyone, in hopes that things will upswing for you all. My biggest worries right now are WHY I can't lose weight (even though I count every friggen calorie that goes into my maw) and wondering how tall the duckies enclosure fencing needs to be.

I wish I could toss the PIC into Fizzgig (that's what we named the *new* Kia) and drive to everyone's house, gather everyone up, get everyone footie pajamas and whatever snacks they want, then climb into the biggest bed ever, snuggle, and watch whatever shows we wanted to watch while gobbling up our treats, crying, sobbing, consoling, laughing, crying, pissin off, etc. You all mean very much to me and I don't like to see a drop of hurt in any of you. :hugs x1000

Today after school I need to do some more work on my main run and the broody coop. Chicks are due to hatch very soon! My pre-fab broody coop is a connected to an enclosed section of the main run. The enclosed section is covered in chicken wire currently (it is inside the main run so it didn't need to be predator proof) but I am going to replace the chicken wire with hardware cloth. Mainly because I have read a couple horror stories of chicks getting caught in chicken wire. Not letting that happen on my watch! I also need to put a small skirt around the little enclosed area. My hens like to dig around the base of the enclosure—and twice last week my speckled sussex actually broke into the broody coop. She dug a big hole at the base of the run wall then pushed her way up and in bending the chicken wire in the process.

Which brings up a cautionary point: beware of naming your chickens after historical figures. You will find yourself saying stupid stuff like:

"Amelia Earhart tunneled into the broody coop again today." :gig

New record for eggs in 1 day! 7 1/2 :gig
1/2... LOLOLOL

I just want to say I’ve missed you guys but I’m having trouble bouncing back. I can’t tell you how much I am grieving over the loss of my kitty.
I forced myself to celebrate Jonah’s 11 th birthday on the 19th as I always have complete with party hat and a present and some homemade “dog icecream”.
Cooper was invited (of course) and actually didn’t mind wearing a party hat for about two minutes.

Hugs to you all.

Your dog looks THRILLED in that first photo. usually dogs look like they're going to murder you for putting something on their head, but yours looks so happy!

Been a big day here.

Got confirmed coccidiosis. No other birds looking off at all. Going to complete a full round of the corid.

New roof went on today. NOT HAPPY!
LOTS OF BUCKLED SHINGLES.
Then I find out this is a brand new crew and no one checking up on them.
They also tore off the shingles on my workshop. Not part of the work order. In fact it said do not replace for that.
Well that's on them now. Already called the company and two inspectors are coming tomorrow.
Glad you got a diagnosis. That's rare! I hope the one gets better and the others don't get it.
& Wow, it would have been nice if the supervisor supervised, or had a least ONE person on the crew who knew what they were doing. Horrible. Hopefully they get it all fixed AND you get your workshop shingled for free.

The other hens all look good still. Sandy passed away so no hope for her. She was very small for a Brahma at just 7#. There may lay the reason she was the one to get sick.

The roofing inspector just left. it is cold and sleeting today so he and a second guy will be back tomorrow. He thinks it will be a whole redo. I have to agree. They will be checking to make sure the 6 nails per shingle was actually done. If not it will be a whole redo for sure since they cannot say this section is ok and that section isn't.

I am an unhappy homeowner.

yes the shop is a freebie.

Has anyone seen watery eyes with just irritation? My Olive Egger was in the coop trying to lay an egg. Got booted from the nest and went outside complaining. When she came back in her eyes were bubbly. I of course freaked out and brought her in the house to do a total check up.
Her weight is good. She’s been laying and acting normal. She’s on the flighty side but I suspect no illness.
I gave her some homeopathic treatments that won’t hurt. They didn’t stay bubbly but when I brought her back out to coop she was again being beaten up in the nest box. Saw a bubbly eye again.
I’m wondering if it’s the other hen being to rough.

I don’t know how I manage to get any eggs. They are so rude about the nest boxes. Well, the ONE box they all want to use.

No suggestions about the watery eye, but I will commiserate on the only wanting to use ONE nesting box, then them being all mean about it. Yelling, just about getting IN the box w/ the other one and just plain being mean. I had 2 eggs on the floor the other day, I assume from someone not wanting to share. They WERE using 2 boxes and occasionally using one of the end boxes, but now they're back to only using one box again. CHICKENS!

There are 3 boxes out there and a secluded area with shavings if they wanted. They generally use 2 of the nest boxes out of the 3. Sometimes they all want the top box then other days they all want the middle. My 8 eggs yesterday included 1 on the floor. I couldn’t believe how mean one of the Marans was to my OE. Pecking her in the head and standing on her. I kept telling her if she’d let OE lay her egg then the nest box would be available. She didn’t listen. LOL
