Official Squatch Watchers

I think I was reading loud and clear about people not wanting to follow/couldn't follow...whatever the baluts so I didn't bother mentioning the horse eggs here. I figured who ever wanted to know about the horse eggs would follow there.

I'm trying to stay caught up here but I'm not spending as much time online so it's been a challenge...especially with "my" threads...ya know.

Has anyone seen watery eyes with just irritation? My Olive Egger was in the coop trying to lay an egg. Got booted from the nest and went outside complaining. When she came back in her eyes were bubbly. I of course freaked out and brought her in the house to do a total check up.
Her weight is good. She’s been laying and acting normal. She’s on the flighty side but I suspect no illness.
I gave her some homeopathic treatments that won’t hurt. They didn’t stay bubbly but when I brought her back out to coop she was again being beaten up in the nest box. Saw a bubbly eye again.
I’m wondering if it’s the other hen being to rough.

I don’t know how I manage to get any eggs. They are so rude about the nest boxes. Well, the ONE box they all want to use.
Getting pecked in the eye can cause the bubble. Just keep an eye out for other signs.

There are 3 boxes out there and a secluded area with shavings if they wanted. They generally use 2 of the nest boxes out of the 3. Sometimes they all want the top box then other days they all want the middle. My 8 eggs yesterday included 1 on the floor. I couldn’t believe how mean one of the Marans was to my OE. Pecking her in the head and standing on her. I kept telling her if she’d let OE lay her egg then the nest box would be available. She didn’t listen. LOL
Sometimes the flock can start being mean to a particular bird if she is getting I'll. They know it before we do. Just saying. Keep an eye on her.

That Marans in particular is nest box nasty! She screams at any hen that comes within sight and when she wants the box you better move it. I’ve only seen her vacate the box for my old Leghorn. No one else chases her off. They will try to stand their ground but she’s relentless. Then sits in the box and doesn’t lay. LOL She doesn’t want to share I guess.

I think she got pecked in the head. Oddly the picture makes it look worse then in real but you can see she's got a swollen brow. That's the eye I keep seeing bubbles in. The other side doesn't look like that.
Also, I listened to her lungs and she sounds fine there too.
(Yes she always has that "I'm going to peck your eyes out expression.")

It should stop bubbling in a day or so if it is from the peck. She looks fine to me.

The other hens all look good still. Sandy passed away so no hope for her. She was very small for a Brahma at just 7#. There may lay the reason she was the one to get sick.

The roofing inspector just left. it is cold and sleeting today so he and a second guy will be back tomorrow. He thinks it will be a whole redo. I have to agree. They will be checking to make sure the 6 nails per shingle was actually done. If not it will be a whole redo for sure since they cannot say this section is ok and that section isn't.

I am an unhappy homeowner.

yes the shop is a freebie.
Oh poor sandy:hit

No suggestions about the watery eye, but I will commiserate on the only wanting to use ONE nesting box, then them being all mean about it. Yelling, just about getting IN the box w/ the other one and just plain being mean. I had 2 eggs on the floor the other day, I assume from someone not wanting to share. They WERE using 2 boxes and occasionally using one of the end boxes, but now they're back to only using one box again. CHICKENS!
My stupid guineas refuse to use any kind of nest box. Maybe i will try putting one up off the ground. They just lay at random any where on the back area of the hoop coop floor, usually where it manages to get wet when it rains. It rained ALL frigging day today , every where i went all day and all night.
