Official Squatch Watchers

I've always heard the hairless cats are very high maintenance. They need bathed regularly to remove oils then need sunblock and or sweaters.
There are other allergy friendly breeds. It's generally the dander that gets people, not the hair.
Just my 2 cents.
I hate the dander. I hate the hair. But we’ve always had dogs that shed so I just do a lot of vacuuming.
Whenever we do get a cat, getting a kitten will be key for me since it has to learn to tolerate if not embrace getting baths.

It’s hard -and sometimes dangerous- to try to give a bath to a full grown cat who’s never had one.

We’ve always been okay with Orange male domestic shorthair cats.
Orange because of their personality.
Short hair because hopefully they have less grooming behavior than a long haired cat.
Male because they typically exhibit less fastidiousness in their grooming.
It’s actually proteins in cat saliva that make most allergic people react. It’s just that they cover ever hair they can reach in their SPIT.

Maybe I should find some sort of counter to keep track.

It’s been 2 days fighting the desire to find a cat.

Everybody roosted tonight, had to play elevator for them but they did it! Early thought he was going to sleep on Hobo's roost with her uh,no son lol! The one thing nobody gets to do and my boy tried it ,he failed miserably but he tried it. I had to pet him to calm his little man nerves. He's got his dad's smarts.:)
:love

This has been a crap year so far. After losing Jaiden in January, we lost our ham, Ruby, on mother's day. It was horrible, I held her as she died. And today I had to take my majestic beast in. This morning my mom found a scary amount of blood on the floor in the bathroom. The vet agreed it was time, which makes me feel better about the decision, but doesn't make it any easier. Jasmine was 17. The weighed her and she had lost 1 lb in the past month. The aid offered some options, but they would just be a bandaid on a gunshot wound. It was time. They had these awesome boxes that looked like a little coffin. My dad used the backhoe to dig a spot for her next to Ruby. Kids are devastated.. as they where the last 2 times, but this time more so. They grew up w Jasmine, my favorite. When ever they'd ask which child is my favorite I'd always say Jaz.
I really hope if any of these chicks hatch that they all make it, we really can't handle any more death right now.
Oh gosh I am so so sorry for your loss. Poor Ruby, poor Jaz, and POOR YOU @apryl29 :hugs
it’s extra hard I think when there are kids. The mom has to be the sponge for their grief as well.

The good thing about kids is usually the intensity of their grief doesn’t last as long.

Sending you love and hugs

My favorite vet once told me that male orange domestic short hairs are the easiest going cats.
My giant moose is a testament to that. He sure did not appreciate the bath he had to get a while back though. LOL

Never an easy thing to do.

Oh moosy! I love you buddy!

That’s what I’ve always heard too and I’ve had three of them now.
All were total love bugs and got along great with kids and dogs.

Here’s a hint for your safety and there calmness.
First off a calm helper.

Not a little kid.

A rubber mat in the bottom of the sink and a pile of towels.

Go through your sock drawer.
Find a crew sock that’s stretched out and worn thin.

Roll up the leg part like a doughnut to about midway into the heel.

Speaking softly, slip it over your cat’s head.
The doughnut should be where a turtleneck sits.

They can breath. They can see diffuse light.

It keeps them MUCH CALMER !

And also keeps the water from spraying them in the face which they hate.

At the end of the bath they are usually resigned and you can lather and rinse their head and face , or use a slightly soapy washcloth then rinse it out and rinse it out and repeatedly wipe their head and face until you don’t feel any more suds.

It makes a world of difference.

I never throw away old socks.
I use them for cleaning. Then I toss them.
