I just euthanized Dobby. She was getting worse and I didn't want her to suffer. I used ether this time, as my one experience with cervical dislocation went horribly.

It worked really well. Took maybe 35 minutes. I followed the advice in this article https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...re-culling-the-injured-and-sick-babies.72140/ (fantastic article) @duluthralphie. Ralphie, thank you and your model frog, who died bravely for our sins.

Thank you to my Angel of Death, Smuvie, who always says the right things.

I feel like I am accepting some kind of chicken death Oscar. Seriously, I am sad, I cried. But I'm glad this worked. It was even less traumatic than if I had to go to the vet, which is what I would have done if this did not work. But it did, and I now have 16 chickens.

I'm glad that's over with. Worst part of being a chicken owner, for sure. RIP Dobby.:hit

I'll catch up later but thought I'd share some amazing news.
My tint human's surgery went amazing!
Normally there are bands that pull the large intestine back over to the right & hold them in place. Normally the large intestine starts at the bottom right then goes up, across the body and down the left with the small intestine bunched up in the middle. Her large intestine started near her belly button and went up, to the left, then down the left side. Her small intestine was on the right. They cut the bands that were strangling her small intestine. So she shouldn't need any medications after this, in theory. We're here til at least Wed. The surgeon said there was a lot to fix. She should feel a lot better after this.

Loki is doing great. Babies are alive still.

Apryl, this is fantastic news. I'm so happy for you guys!!!!! Best wishes for a quick, pain-free recovery!:hugs:yesss:

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Truly. I have always planned to use this method when I have a need for it. Hearing your story gives me more confidence that I will be able to do what is necessary for my babies when that day inevitably comes. You are a strong and lovely person and I am so glad I have gotten to know you. :hugs:hugs:hugs You did the right thing.
