Crazy day yesterday. My Mom is in the hospital. She should be fine but any thoughts and players anyone can send would be greatly appreciated.

I went to work for a few hours and when I got home found 5 of 7 teenies on the wrong side of the fence, under the coop.

Momma and the other 2 are inside. They were happily scratching away but were so far under they couldn't find their way out. And Momma would call them so they would run up to the fence but not be able to get through.
I tried to get Momma to call them out from the side of the coop. Nope.
Let Momma go under hoping she would lead them out. She started scratching around with them.
Tried bribing her out with Grubblies. No again.
Attempted to convince my Chihuahua to chase her out. She turned on him in denfesive mode and he hightailed it outta there.
So I had to crawl under the coop. If course they would move to just out of my reach. I can't crawl all the way through, in one side and out the other. So back and forth I went trying to grab chicks. At one point used a fish tank size fish net and snagged one. It took me a good 45 min to an hour but I finally got everyone.

They then promptly took a dirt bath and a nap.
Hopefully they will keep their little fuzzy butts where they belong. In a day or two they will be to big to fit through the WW fence.

Hey guys! Good morning. :)

I'm leaving for New Orleans in 2 days with DH. Neither one of us has ever been there. We're staying in the French Quarter. Any suggestions for cool/fun things to do there? We're gonna do all the touristy stuff--since it's our first time there--but I'm more an "off the beaten path" kinda chick.

After the past 6 months or so I've had (depression/quitting job/mom dying) I am so looking forward to this!!!! I am nervous about leaving all my critters, but I'm having my friend who runs her own pet sitting company (and is an emergency vet tech) watching the fur-and-feather-kids, so they're in great hands.

I can't wait!!

Best wishes for a fast recovery for mom.
What a pain with the chicks under the coop! I put hardware cloth skirt around the bottom of my coop so varmints can't get in and if i had chicks they would stay out. Works great.

The permanent part of the run is WW on T posts. When they started to venture outside I put tall boards up from the coop forward but didn't quite have enough. They had been going in and out at the far end, where there's lots of weeds to hide in, but Mom would call and they'd run right to her. They must have gotten to far away outside the run then lost. Under the coop is safe from flying predators but not much else. If they do it again I'll have to find something to block off the rest of the WW with. Don't really want to spend money reinforcing a coop I'm going to leave. If rather spend it on a new one!
(If you look at the first picture of them under the coop you can see the center support for the front of the coop. I used the word support loosely.)

Sounds like a much needed break and you can leave without worry with your experienced and capable friend watching over the babes.
You are so lucky!

Hello everyone, this has been a crazy last few days. The Milk Drinker has been sick since Thursday and DH got sick on Saturday. Fortunately, it seems DH and the Milk Drinker are getting better but they both have a cough that I didn’t get with this illness. I hope we didn’t infect the friends we were staying with. I went into work today to get my computer worked on and meet with my manager. That all went well and we are heading home tomorrow. I’m exhausted. I didn’t sleep well last night because of the Milk Drinker’s coughing. Poor baby.
