Thoughts on debugging wild bird chicks? I have a nest of Eastern Phoebes on my porch. I've been watching them and of course getting pictures. I noticed the ceiling above them crawling! Little tiny black bugs. I'm tempted to spray the nest with some Elector PSP. Not sure if that would kill the bugs, the birds or both. I feel bad for the birds but my skin crawls thinking about it.

Seriously I would do it.

Nasty crawlies are usually killed with Elector PSP.

Better to at least try to help them then let bugs eat them up.

I don’t think i would but maybe put some lavender or something under the nest. Some dish soap and water will kill the bugs

They are about ready to fledge. All those specks you can see-- I thought it was just dirt from mom going in and out. No-- Those specks are moving creepy crawlies.
Don't think I can get close enough to touch the birds or lift the nest. (I think it's stuck down) So I thought a long shot spray to the nest might work.

Looks like northern fowl mites. :sick

Maybe a few squirts to the bottom of the nest and one or two above will help.

I don't think it will harm the babies. I am not an expert but it's safe on chickens.

I would want them dead so they don't end up on my hens.

When I saw all the movement it made my skin crawl. :sick
Yes I’d like to help the wild birds but I don’t want to subconsciously itch every time I walk out my front door.

I think they’ve got another week in the nest. Those mouths are still bright yellow.
Maybe you could take a piece of cardboard and hold it over them like an awning and just spray the ceiling.
