No take-backs! They are mine now! My babies! MINE!![]()

Too true! I'll be going out to check on them tomorrow morning to make sure the babies are getting out to eat. If the hen isn't off the nest I'll remove her.

Good Tuesday Morning all. I'm not even gonna pretend to read back over everything. A heap of taters piled on my plate lately, so I'm posting a *place holder*, gonna write my novel,to those who need is, swift :kickinthearse for the others.
Has @Parront checked in here yet???
Cappy - just another name forI was going to go close up the coop, and what do i see?View attachment 1471988
A big Kingsnake, headed for the coop!
Get well PicHere's what's up lately:
1. PIC has been sick. Like, really really sick. Got him into the Dr; he is on Keflex and a very boozy smelling expectorant, cause whatever he has has settled into his chest and decided it wants to live there for awhile.
2. Super Tater DH is already going through work withdrawals, and he hasn't even started his retirement process yet. He's pretty much completely *checked out* in the work department. Plus, I think he's a little depressed about it. His unit will be out training during the time he will be turning in all his paperwork and clearing post, so basically no parties, no fanfare... just *wipe ya feet on the way out and don't let the door hit ya where the good lawd split ya*........
3. Mom is coming for her yearly visit. SHE wants to stay for at least 2 months.... Oh dear.
4. Did I mention THE PUPPIES?!?!? We got puppies.

Yeah, there's that. I DID tell the boys they could get a couple of puppies when STDH retired.... so, here they are. We took home 3 to see which 2 would *fit* the best.
We have decided on the single boy, the white one, who we named (David) Bowie Bleu. and the black one (the runt from a separate litter), and named her Twilight Dreaming. The Brown one, we were calling Poppy Cox... and it's a shame we can't keep her... but she is too much of an Alpha personality, and doesn't do well with submitting to the older dogs.... PLUS I didn't want puppies at all PLUS blah blah blah. To be honest, if it was JUST the puppies, we'd keep all 3, and Poppy would more than likely be the lead dog.... but Wolf is already or lead dog, so don't need an Assistant (to the) Lead Dog. (Anyone get that reference?!?)
5. Our closest neighbors are moving, and they are taking PICs BFF.... so, dealing with those emotions. They sold their property pretty quickly, so we're very curious as to who will be moving in...
So, there's all that... OH and my skin procedures as well.. which has been cutting (no pun intended) into my work out and swimming time this summer..... I'm verklempt!!!
Is it wild or did it escape from captivity? I don't know which breeds of quail are wild or not.Found a surprise in the chicken run when I went to let them out—a quail. At first I was horrified I must have missed one of the chicks and the poor thing had been out all night. Then it stopped running long enough that I got a good look. A little bob white female as best as I could tell.
The landlord has them in captivity to train bird dogs. Bob whites can live here. Pretty sure when he uses the bird he just lets it go. So could be one that was used for training. Could be an escape. Could be a descendant of a survivor. (Can’t wait to move away from that nonsense.)Is it wild or did it escape from captivity? I don't know which breeds of quail are wild or not.
For some reason my computer wouldn't let me play the video yesterday... I've heard that sound before. They make the strangest noises before, during, and after laying.I....Ummmm...????
If we have them I've never seen or heard of them. Maybe it's too cold? We had one TINY salamander last fall. His name was Newt Salamander [Harry Potter]. The longest one I've seen was still a super tiny 3" long. In first grade the kids do a field trip where they go to the local bio station and dig up / catch things. It's amazing what they find & catch. I was stunned that a kid actually caught a bull frog during one of the field trips I was on. I really didn't think they'd be able to do it. I had to apologize to him b/c I didn't believe in him.The salamanders down here are bigger than the skinks lol! I'm suprised you don't have these in Ohio, it is skink city here skinks and anoles. I hate that one got his tail eaten but it was probably his fault, they kind of move it around like a lure to attract stuff to eat. No kidding though Dutch looked very much dead I squealed a little bit when she moved...dang zombie chicken.![]()
Mine don't seem to think this way unless it's a frog. It seems I have a rodent of some type frequenting my coop and no one has killed it yet. I keep seeing foot prints in the pdz. I put out a couple traps last night so I'm hoping I caught something today. My girls see anything smaller than them running through the pasture and it = food. Off they go....
Nope.I was going to go close up the coop, and what do i see?View attachment 1471988

My phone does that too. Recently it was censoring my bad worse with **** & I had to go turn it off, I assume an update turned it on. I've had this phone for years and it still can't spell my kids' names correctly even though I've correct it all the time. I do like that it spells my bff's name Becky b/c she hates it & spells it Beki so that's nice.Molting hens... stupid autocorrect. My phone updated and forgot my normal vocabulary, so it assumes I'm a normal human being. I hate when phones get amnesia, now I have to train it all over again.![]()
Awww! She's being a good mama. Took her a min to realize what was going on when you tossed those kids at her. Honestly, that's how I felt too when they laid my first kid on my stomach.. Like holy wow.. this is happening.Update on my broody leghorn. I hatched out 5 Chocolate Orpington chicks in the incubator today. I've been incubator hatching because it was so hot that my broody hen eggs were going rotten on them.
I went out about 30 min before dark to give the babies to her. I wanted to watch and see if she would accept them. When I put the first baby in, she was shocked, but when I went to put the second baby in she flipped out and flew out of her nest box scattering the two babies. This is the way she's been any time I've gotten near the nest, she runs, squawking madly. So I decided to remove the eggs, put the babies in the nest and see what happens. She didn't want to go back in, and the babies were trying to crawl out of the box. So I caught her, putting babies back in the box as they kept popping out and shut her in. I wasn't too worried because she started making broody clucking noises. I peaked a couple times and she almost escaped again when I tried moving a chick back under her. So I left her alone for a bit and focused on putting the rest of the birds to bed. When I came back, this was her response to me trying to take a video of the chicks underneath her. She went from flighty to bitey. She didn't like my trying to move her to take a look at her babies.
