Welp my day got demolished.

My big peach tree has succumbed to the weight of leaves and fruit. It broke and split right down the middle. Such a bummer but not entirely unexpected.

We had removed about 80% of the fruit several weeks ago. It was just a weirdly growing tree that looked to have a real weak spot anyway.

Just a lot of clean up today. The chainsaw quit a year ago so it's me and my bow saw for that mess.

I will pick all the peaches and hope they ripen.

Oh and its raining.

You know how when you’re woken up abruptly and you’re only kinda/sorta half awake ?

Looks like me this morning when the mail lady banged on my door. By the time i got clothes on she was gone! But she left my quail egg cartons so yippee!
Good morning everyone! Too bad it is raining again...

So so sick of this rain.

Dang. What a mess. I’m sorry. You me and Cappy are sick of this rain.
I have a big crepe myrtle in my backyard that I have a love hate relationship with.

Right now it is in full bloom but each one of the tiny flowers that make up each big flower is like a cup which holds water so it is heavily laden by the weight.

I have gone outside so many times in the past two weeks to shake each limb to lighten its burden and get soaked and dirty each time of course. Now a few limbs have split away from the trunk.
It’s looking like it might split in the middle of its crotch.

Maybe you can lash around it with wire?

We used tree twine to hold branches together in the prune orchard

Oh Hon! I am keeping every precious drop we get. The timing just stinks today.
I am after all in the desert.

Hubby wants another peach tree. I do NOT.
Although they stay healthy they are short lived and prone to breaking.
I don't want another apple tree either. Fireblight is horrible and an ever present danger.

I have a 20+ foot tall flowering pear tree that is sickly too. I may just cut it down and be done with it. The other one is strong and healthy.

I will be pulling another 50 or so peaches off the smaller tree.

So frustrating to finally have peaches set on just to lose the whole tree.

I think I will keep the bigger branches and use them in the chicken runs. At least SOMETHING can be salvaged from it.

This is the break after I cut the huge branch loose. Probably not worth trying to dress the wound.
:(

The fruit is all very young so likely a loss too.
