I wish I lived far enough away from people that I couldn't smell what they are making for breakfast.
My windows are open and someone is cooking bacon!

:drool Now I am hungry!
In just a few minutes, I'm going to open a can of bacon, fry up a couple eggs and make a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich on the wheat bread I made last night. ;):drool

Molting is in full swing here now. So many feathers!

Am I the only one who thinks cherry lifesavers taste like cough syrup?
Fun fact: Lifesavers were inventing right here in Garrettsville, OH.

That bit of info in pounded into our little heads in first grade just for moments like this!

I’m struggling with this which is funny because I HAVE buffs lol.

I will say my girls all have VERY sturdy legs like my German grandmother....:gig
My lav's have those tree trunk legs too, they're also ENORMOUS birds and much bigger than all the others. I'm concerned for when they reach maturity, they'll squash all my girls.

Good morning all! Though I'd share a pic of my new additions.....Martha is a White Frost and Eleanor is a Black Splash Ameraucana. I needed some color added to my egg basketView attachment 1540748
They're beautiful. How old are they?

Quick check in and update

Part of a roof
Great job!

Hey all. Just checking in. We made the trek from WV to MD today. We are staying with friends tonight. Tomorrow we are going to a hotel near my work site so I can go to an all hands meeting with my manager’s manager on Monday. Starting Tuesday, I have 2 weeks off. Tuesday we are going to our Dentist from when we lived in MD. Since we like them and come to the area for work, why wait? It will be the Milk Drinker’s first appointment. On Wednesday, we are going into DC to take the Milk Drinker to the National Zoo. He’s at an age that I think he will really enjoy it.
We LOVE zoos. I hope you guys have a good time!

I had a great time! Not the best picture of my awesome new chickens.

Beautiful! What kind are they?

She hadn't been laying for about 2 or 3 months, then she started laying messes, but not on a predictable basis. I've tried tums, I've tried vit D with sardines, still nothing with a well defined shell, and most times only a membrane. I will try a week of minimal light and see how that goes.
That sounds kinda like Jackie. She always laid thin shelled eggs, rarely did I get something functional from her, (she also started laying REALLY late. Recently she's started laying normal eggs, though I've gotten a few thin shells here and there. Not sure what caused it, but I've noticed that my girls LOVE egg shell a lot more than the oyster shell. Maybe that would help.

Interesting thread!

One thing that will help make egg shells hard is calf manna. There are feeding instructions on the bag for chickens.
I did start giving my girls calf manna this summer, so maybe that's why Jackie started laying real eggs.

I don’t know how Cappy does it! Parts of my body I didn’t know I had hurt.:th

Questions:
Is the metal roofing hard to cut? What do you use? I thought it came in 6’ lengths but I’m only finding it in 8’.

Also, what do you guys do with your dog poop? At the old house it was impossible to pick up. We had dogs and the landlords dogs would come over. Other dogs would be over. Poop everywhere.
I’m trying to pick it up when they go but I was retching this morning. I have a bucket going to put it in but my god the smell!
If you're getting the roofing material from a hardware store you should be able to get them to cut it for you. Maybe call around til you find a place that will do it. Make sure you wear gloves when you're moving it around though.. it'll still be sharp.

As for the dog poop, my parents use a scooper, then toss it in a bucket then toss that into the woods periodically.
I use the bucket method for the chickens too, but I empty it every day into a pile away from the coop. Though, in the winter I wait til it's full b/c of snow. So maybe just emptying it more frequently would be the answer.

I curse! :barnie:barnie:barnie
I spit-spit-SPIT- PA-TOOHEY
:he:he:he:he:he
on whomever planted all those dang “gum ball” trees in my back two neighbor’s yards.

As you know my Welsummers have very tender feet and are terribly prone to bumblefoot, and I’ve struggled with it all summer.
This morning I’ve been clearing their free range enclosure from hurricane debris.
So far I’ve gathered a wheelbarrow full of pine cones, and THREE five gallon buckets of #+%+%*}^{ :ducGUM BALLS! :tongue
I didn't know that's what those things were called. I see them around our apt and they are horrible.

Forgot to mention this happened!

Yeah, that's the old septic tank that was supposed to be emptied then crushed and buried. It sunk...they brought dirt...in sunk again.
Smells lovely.
Wow. so they didn't do the crushing/ burying part? Or didn't empty it?

Purchased: Two dog crates, pair of Tolbunt Polish chickens. A big metal pot and a Gilmanor tshirt.
Sold, 4 dozen quail eggs, 3 male rabbits, one Jake turkey, all my male guineas, all my juvenile guineas i am not keeping, a pair of quail.

Traded: 32 quail, mostly hens for 4 mini rex rabbits, 3 out of 4 are does. Unknown if they are pregnant, the guy is Hispanic and not very easy to understand. But i needed to unload some quail. Doe rabbits sell pretty well.
Great job! Can't wait for baby bunnies!
:barnie:th
Woke up to bright red bloody puddles in my coop. Whomever did it was eating a lot of soil and sand yesterday while free ranging. Which makes sense, because I was back there raking and they were picking through eating bugs galore and thus ingesting a lot of dirt and ALL of them flew right past their actual feed in the morning for a plate of scrambled eggs.
Hoping it’s just coccidiosis because of all the rain and runoff and not something worse.
:hitI’m going to try to get to my TSC this morning for Corid- which kind should I buy? Liquid or powder?
Hoping I can get up there...:fl I’m hearing that the roads are still perilous.

And today’s my b-day and I just wanted a nice quiet day:hit:hit:hit

Um.. Happy Bday? Have you figured out who's sick yet? Hopefully it's nothing too bad and is just some major intestinal lining shedding. Willie had a big glob of it mixed in w his poo on his roosting space. I will never get used to that or seeing the rocks in their poo from when they empty their crop.

My new pair of chickens are Tolbunt polish, the hen is a frizzle!

Jeeze, that goldfish! I saw him in there on his back and of course I thought he had ceased to be, he's really old so it wouldn't surprise me. I go get the net and the second I touch him he flips and starts swimming! He was sleeping like that! I really hope he doesn't make that a habit.:th
Maybe he has swim bladder issues.

I used to have clown loaches! They lay on their sides in the bottom of the tank!
I always liked hatchet fish. They look like they are upside down all the time. Part of the flying fish family.
