I need more bearded birds! LOL

The coop is almost a real coop. I got the door working and the net attached to the coop. It’s not pretty but it’s attached.

I put old plywood and stuff overhead to lower the ceiling some. I’m worried about the cold.

Anyone have thoughts on running an extension cord. Grounded plug and only running 1 heated waterer. My Dad wants to string it in the trees. I say lay it on the ground.

I run outdoor extension cords to the coops and just let them lay across the ground. The chicken coop cord goes up and over the wall to go in the run, the turkey coop cord just runs under the fence and in to the coop

I use an extension cord for my heated waterer  It is a nice outdoor use cord with the important safety features Henny mentioned. Additional precautions I take:

-The heated waterer is in the run, not in the coop. I have a couple other waterers (unheated) that I use can use for the coop. In the morning, I take the frozen coop waterer out and replace it with a fresh, unfrozen one. But having the heated waterer in the run ensures they never are without water if I get up late or (worse) forget to change the coop waterer.

-The heated waterer is placed on a small, platform of non-flammable material (just used some big bricks I found in the yard and repurposed).

-The extension cord does run along the ground for a ways, but where it is connected to the cord of the waterer, it is suspended. Basically the extension threads into the run from above.

Hope this helps!

Oh I know, iv'e seen quite a few of those threads. As for me i'm just glad all her laying parts are working like they should. I probably should be freaking out though she's laid twice and neither one in the box.:p
OPs on the nest box laying threads hate that advice! You must need to do something to get them to lay in a nest box! :th

Well, one of the littles has decided she wants to try being a jerk for the very first time and peck everybody at bedtime...congrats on your jerk wings Rene.
Really thought it would be Ethel.:cafView attachment 1592741 View attachment 1592745 View attachment 1592746 View attachment 1592747

Above ground is better. the extension cord that goes to my greenhouse is buried in mud. I need to dig it out regularly.

I have 2 brand new 100’ 14/3 outdoor extension cords. I’m not sure how far the coop is. Plan is to run real wiring with conduit and the whole nine yards— but kinda ran out of time.

I just need to make it through this winter.

The waterer itself will be on a cinder block. The cord inside will be off the ground. I have one of those screw together connector things for the extension cords. I may get another for the cord to waterer plug.

I love the puffy cheeks on the Tolbunt chicks!
As far as extension cords, i lay them on the ground but no mowing around the coops so no issue there.

I appreciate your honesty.
Not every breed fits every person.

We like em here well enough. :p
I grew up next door to a Bassett hound, in the suburbs. They chained it out between our houses, maybe 20 feet apart. It barked. A lot. Every freaking day. Try to concentrate on homework with that going on. They took it hunting maybe twice a year. Other than that, its main recreation was barking.
