Official Squatch Watchers

I grew up next door to a Bassett hound, in the suburbs. They chained it out between our houses, maybe 20 feet apart. It barked. A lot. Every freaking day. Try to concentrate on homework with that going on. They took it hunting maybe twice a year. Other than that, its main recreation was barking.

I can see how that would drive you away from howlers.

When I bought this house there were 2 beagles next door. Turns out they were outside dogs only. All night every night the beagles barked, howled, whined. Yup good times.

Most all breeds of dogs need to be part of something.

We handle ours as part of the family. They sleep indoors, get played with tons and tons and aren't allowed to aggravate the neighbors.
I found a route for walks that is free of loose dogs so if it's sunny we go walkies.
Since I am home these days getting puppies trained is good timing. Sable and Delilah play to rough in the yard. Sable needs a yard buddy. Delilah is good at playing with her toys in her kennel alone for a couple hours at a time.
It's hard on my old guys to play with Sable in the yard. Inside they do great together.

Hubby and I like hounds so no reason not to get one.

Yeah, i know. Give me a working breed any day.

We had a siberian husky a few years ago. I'll admit, we were not prepared for the amount of energy that she had when we brought her home at 12 weeks old but she was my dream dog. She was from show lines but would've been very happy to run all day long! She could never be trusted off leash. I was so sick on the drive to NC (from PA) to pick her up. I found out 3 days later that I was pregnant with our first. She passed away almost 2 years ago at 12 1/2 years old. She was very frustrating to raise but we absolutely loved her. We just lost her "brother" a terrier mix a few weeks ago and they will be buried together (ashes). Our last dog is an English bulldog mix. She just sleeps all the time lol

I don't think I could deal with a puppy. I love my Zoe girl. She's a totally crazy Australian Cattle Dog. At 7 she shows no sign of slowing down. I always thought when my old chihuahua died I would get a second ACD to keep her company. He's still going strong thank goodness.

Yes-- he's in bed with his head under his blanky.

AWWWWW sweet slumber.

Good evening everyone!

I had a REALLY busy day today. My SIL and I left at 8am this morning to drive 2.5-3 hours up to Pittsburgh PA to the nearest Costco. We also hit up IKEA and Trader Joes while we were there. Thankfully, this week I really found the key to managing my morning sickness. I need to eat at least every 2-3 hours during the day to keep from feeling horribly sick. We managed to keep the trip under $1000 and only spent $40 at IKEA. Going to IKEA was mainly a fact-finding tour to get ideas. My SIL just put a contract down on a house and she'll be moving in January. It is a really nice house set up as a duplex. It has a fairly large storage area in the half basement, and she is thinking of converting that into a tiny house/studio apartment for herself and renting out the other 2 units for 3 times what her mortgage payments will be. I was looking for ideas for things we'll need to get once we get our new house, new bed for the Milk Drinker, desks, etc. It was a fun day, but I'm pooped.

We aren't going to church tomorrow because the Milk Drinker has been sick and has a runny nose and periodically runs a low grade fever. That will be good for me because Monday will be a busy day for me (first Midwife appointment). At least this way, I'll have tomorrow to relax.

For Thanksgiving, DH, the Milk Drinker, my SIL and I will be going up to PA again to go to my MIL's extended family annual Thanksgiving reunion. For years, they have been renting a house near one of my DH's Great Aunt/Uncle's house (since they sold their house and moved into a retirement community). Sadly, it sounds like this will be the last hurrah for the family reunion. The rental house that they have gotten every year is going out of business, and since members of my DH's grandmother's generation are getting up in their 80s-90s, it is getting harder for them to make it out for the festivities, especially since they are spread out from SE PA all the way up to Rochester, NY. This is sad, my first introduction to my DH's extended family was at one of these reunions. We had only been dating 5 months and we weren't even engaged yet. My DH thought it was very daring of me to agree to come. My MIL only really wanted to come for the second half of the trip (Saturday/Sunday) to visit her mother. Since we moved to the farm, she's become a bit reclusive and doesn't want to deal with the politics that are talked about during the festivities.
