Morning friends. I have a question......is it ok that my rooster eats layer feed?
Lives off of it or snacks? layer feed is higher in calcium than an all flock feed.
Too much calcium is hard on roosters kidneys.

Editing here people!

....because I mentioned the dog food recall and erroneously said it was too much calcium but after a half cup of coffee kicked in, I remembered it’s
D3 people , not calcium.

*but this IS another major problem in the pet food industry.

Delilah gets super puky if her tummy gets to empty.
I make sure she gets a cookie at bedtime and again at 5 am.
If she is hungry she has hangry moments.

The medium is about the size of a tennis ball. Go bigger with these is my advice.
Sable can do the medium but I worry about that size with Delilah.

Back in the days before BYC my roosters ate layer feed.
They were 5+ years old and showed no ill effects.

For what it's worth in my opinion a roo getting to much is not as bad as several hens not getting enough.

Good morning 34 degrees but it feels colder! :)
Or the whole thing is BS.
Maybe it isn’t even the real company trying to shake you down.
*not that time shares of any kind are good :old
But what I’m saying is it may be a scam. So you better do some serious investigating rather than just ignoring it and hoping it goes away.

Just like those companies who claim to help you get RID of a time share....
Thats what im thinking. I don't know how we could owe on anything we never had right?

Good morning people :frow

THERE IS NO SOUND MORE EFFECTIVE AT GETTING YOUR FEET ON THE FLOOR IN THE MORNING THAN A DOG PUKING RIGHT NEXT TO YOU IN THE DARK.

(He’s feeling fine now that I’m up and have stood outside in my nightgown with bare feet in 40 degree weather for 10 minutes with him.)

Hope today brings some cheer to those who need it.
PASS THE HUGS. :hugs
I disagree there is one other effective get out of bed sound...cat puking.;)

Good morning folks. We got a small layer of the white stuff here last night.

My dad and FIL got the interior of my winter coop finished. I just have to throw down some shavings, stuff the nest boxes and secure the garden fence a little better. I'll have to take some photos. We'll have to transfer the birds after they go in their mobile coops for the night and set up a dividing fence in the garden between the rooster pad and the main flock.

The place I get my feed only offers Chick and Layer. They love their feed and this lady has it all ground locally....all organic and No GMO. I would really like to continue using her feed but don't want to hurt my roosters.

Can you post what the nutrients are in the chick feed?
If it's not super high in protein that may be what is best for all of them.
Just gotta compare it to an all flock nutrient list....

I feed everyone the same... I was feeding turkey starter when the poults were young. Then turkey grower the rest of the time... Oyster on the side.
Now I can't get the organic turkey and the highest feed I can get is chicken starter...so everyone gets it.
But I have read that adult chickens that are not laying can handle the higher calcium... hurts the younger ones kidneys
