I lost Butterscotch my Sweish Pullet from this years hatch. She was fine yesterday. Seemed a little sluggish this morning. She was huddled in the coop when I went out this afternoon. I brought her in and thought I'd warm her up and get some food in her. She was dazed and listless. She stretched out her legs, flapped her wings, made that pitiful crying sound and died in my lap.

Swedish Flower genetic seem to be in the toilet. Someone else here said they bred them for a bit but had a terrible time. I'm going to contact them and ask about their experiences.

This is rediculous.

Oh Nunny. That just sucks. Do you have any Swedish left? I feel so bad for you. You have had a really tough time with chickens this year and it sucks cuz you are such a good chicken mom

As heart wrenching as it is Nunny , I would have to second the motion that you do a home necropsy to look for clues.

Well it was whether you ment it to be or not. DH's family isn't fond of me that is no secret, his mother never even met my parents acted like they didn't exsist. My parents on the other hand treated DH better than they treated me. That made me not only not mind being accepted by her but not want to be. I'll never get a kind word out of that woman, but that is her fault not mine.

Wasn’t meant to be eloquent. Just got it off my chest. I’ve lived that kind of life that @pitbullmomma is experiencing.
Nine years is nine years too long to hurt.
My whole family loves my DH.
My mom and dad (both gone now) treated him like a real son BECAUSE I LOVE HIM.
And they recognized that he was a good father and provider.
But I never had the guts to lay down the law and demand the one simple thing I desired, which was to just be accepted by them.
Didn’t need to be loved. I got plenty of that from my family. I just wanted to be accepted.

...and maybe acknowledged for being a good and loving wife and mother.

Did you get her from a hatchery? I heard something about some of the hatchery lines having a fatal flaw that kills their birds between 6-18 months. Swedish flowers are supposed to be a land race and apparently their hardiness has been greatly reduced in attempts to selectively breed them. Typically, the only selection you should make is for disabilities and selecting any birds with bad temperaments for the dinner table.

I don't know if I have the heart to do it. I wouldn't know what I'm looking at or even for.
She was hatched from my eggs and by her coloring I think Sugar was her Mom and Trouble was her Dad. I could be wrong but that's my guess. She was always a little slower and shyer then the other hatchlings. But Sugar was too. I thought it was personality not illness.
I have Cinnamon a hen from my first batch of Swedish Flowers and Jr. from this last hatch. Although Jr is timid he seems really healthy. (Taterhead I'm pretty sure fathered him) So I may have a mother son pair left.
I really think it was a bad genetic line. I'm looking into getting some hatchlings come spring. Greenfire Farm has been a breeder for years. They import new blood direct from Sweeden. I'm just not sure....

Although Glayds seems to be feeling better she has two wounds on her bad leg. The newest one I found actually looks like the tendon pulled so hard it burst through her skin.
Her sister isn't breathing right. She insisted on laying on her side. I've never had such an uncooperative patient. Every time I try to do anything with her she jump like a kangaroo and gets so upset I think her heart is going to give out. So I had basically touched her as little as possible to lessen the stress. I think laying down messed her up. I have her tied into the sling, which she had thrown herself clean out of, to keep her upright. She seemed a little better but I'm not thinking she's going to make it.

I don't know what's wrong with any of them. I don't know if it's individual illnesses, genetic problems, a toxin or something contagious. I could send more blood samples but I don't even know what to test for. If things don't go better I don't know if I'll be able to get more chickens. It's just so heartbreaking.

Hang in there. Sometimes you just have a bad spell. It will get better.

This is so sad. I know you have nursed, hand fed, treated, tested, and worried yourself sick this summer.

I never did get lucky with my EE. Mine were from several different hatcheries. Just absolutely heartbreaking.

I wish we all would have been able to figure out what the tater is wrong with your sweet birds.

It is possible, all I know is they aren't collecting jack from here. We took my Mom and Dad with us, even senior citizens were bored. My Mom actually said "even the trashy people are stuck up here" I almost died. One saving grace, a 50's style diner simply called the Hilton Head diner. Beautiful place, huge, really varied menu. No kidding, everytime we ate there it was awesome. They even had drinks, made the biggest Irish coffee iv'e ever had.

Or the whole thing is BS.
Maybe it isn’t even the real company trying to shake you down.

But what I’m saying is it may be a scam. So you better do some serious investigating rather than just ignoring it and hoping it goes away.

Just like those companies who claim to help you get RID of a time share....
