The pine pellets are just compressed so no glue or chemicals but I would watch they don’t eat the pellets. I would think they would puff up in their crop and that would be bad. I didn’t put any in the run yet. I plan on doing it once they are in the coop to be on the safe side.
I put them down and let them soak up what they can. I stomp them down and kick them around a bit. They are mixing with the mud and compressing into something I can at least stand on and sink or slide around.
They are cheap too. About $5 for 40lbs.
I think I need to get some of that for my stationary run. I want to move my BC/Choco Orp banties in there, but it is SOOO muddy.

Hmmm that might be a good option for my back run. When it's too cold to keep it open over night it's always closed b/c I'm not driving out to my parent's place in the morning to open it up when they can just use the front run. So if I toss it down before it snows, as the snow melts they should puff up and then get worked into the dirt/ mud/ leaves. I might try it w/ a little bit first to see what happens. It's smaller, but they should be grateful they can get out as soon as they get up and not have to wait til I drop off the kids at school. The pellets are about the size of their food so I wouldn't want it out there where they might get to it, they get really dumb when they think something might be edible. Let me know what you think. I assume once it gets a bit of water on it it'll puff out, kind like the recycled newspaper pellets they have for cat litter boxes.

Ok, this is random and really stupid. About seven years ago hubs paid a guys dues on a time share in Hilton Head to try out one he was thinking of buying, he never signed anything. Now they're trying to say he owes nearly five thousand dollars past dues. He hasn't heard a thing from this company in seven years. What kind of place you actually owe money leaves you in complete peace for seven years?
I told him unless they have an contract with the breakdown and schedule for dues and a disclamer on actions to be taken if dues aren't paid signed by him from seven years ago then good luck on collecting anything.
I can't get over the desperation of this company! BTW time share was awful! A mile from the beach, not like it was even a good beach they "clean" it each morning so the sand is concrete hard.
There was literally an alligator pond five feet from the back door.
Expensive everything and snobby people, only one friendly old dude in a speedo on the beach. He stood out, number one he was smiling, number two he was wearing a speedo on a beach with 40's style modesty "no kidding". Speedo man made me feel much better about my bikini.:gig
That's ridiculous. I agree, there should be some kind of written contract for him to be held liable. I bet the "friend" stopped paying and then said your husband was going to take over his share.. & you're right, why wait so long to say something? You'd think after a couple months of non-payment they'd be calling the guy. I wonder if he's going bankrupt and the place is trying to recover some of their $$.

A few people in the reviews said they used it for chickens too.
One person said "We used this in our chicken run. It gives a pleasant smell and once it gets wet, it becomes more of a sawdust which works great.", another person said their chickens didn't eat it. Maybe b/c of the smell they can tell it's not food.
I think I'll pick up a bag on Thursday and toss it out. Can't make it any worse out there than the mud pit it already is. I could probably toss some in the small run after dark when they've gone inside and it'd absorb over night.

It is possible, all I know is they aren't collecting jack from here. We took my Mom and Dad with us, even senior citizens were bored. My Mom actually said "even the trashy people are stuck up here" I almost died. One saving grace, a 50's style diner simply called the Hilton Head diner. Beautiful place, huge, really varied menu. No kidding, everytime we ate there it was awesome. They even had drinks, made the biggest Irish coffee iv'e ever had. :)

That explains it... everyone who goes there just stays drunk the whole time. I can't imagine why the guy would want out of it.

Wow. I’m sorry that you’re living my life.
When we met and decided to get married his whole family hated me. They were so certain I was preggars.
(Not)
His parents didn’t contribute a penny to our small modest wedding, yet interfered (demanded) in every decision.
The next year we had a baby.
Again it was mayhem on every decision.

Finally WE went to marriage counseling.
But after a few sessions the therapist actually told my husband it wasn’t US that needed to work on things , it was HIM. He didn’t want to pursue that idea.

Finally there was a disagreement that caused a split in the family.

From then on I was no longer included in anything. He was. Just not me.
His extended family, siblings and parents didn’t speak to me or acknowledge our children for 16 years.

Then one day his mom woke up and decided she’d like to have grandchildren.
By then our boys were teenagers. They wanted none of it.
They had adult opinions and felt that the one grandmother they’d had was enough. Because she was awesome and loved them as a grandmother should- unconditionally. I never pushed them. But DH started taking the girls for visits. Not a ton, but some.
They enjoyed it I think ... but there was never any magical closeness.

She died suddenly almost two years ago. They felt bad for their dad but didn’t experience any “grief” over it.

We’ve been married almost 35 years. We’ve struggled.
We’ve had triumphs. We raised a family. We’ve lost a
Child.
Yet in all these years DH has never stood up and said anything to defend me.

I can tell you to this day.
It hurts me.
My grandmother would say “It cuts me to the quik.”

Ive been a great wife.
His champion.
His head cheerleader.
His partner.
I’ve made his life so that he could concentrate on his career and nothing else.
I handled everything with the houses, kids, finances, cars and pets.
I am throwing my arm out of joint here patting myself on the back because I have been one hell of a mom, and at times it was hard as heck dealing with kids and a husband who travelled a lot.

Had he married “the other girl” that his parents wanted him to marry, his life would never have been as deeply rewarding as it is.

All I can tell you is flat out ask that he stand up for you.
Tel him how deeply hurt you are that he doesn’t support you.
Sending you a hug.
Wow, that is sad. He needs to step up!

I use them in the brooder, works great.. but I dump a bunch in, cover with paper towels, add chicks and by the time I remove the paper towels they are breaking down... they like to dust bath in them too

I lost Butterscotch my Sweish Pullet from this years hatch. She was fine yesterday. Seemed a little sluggish this morning. She was huddled in the coop when I went out this afternoon. I brought her in and thought I'd warm her up and get some food in her. She was dazed and listless. She stretched out her legs, flapped her wings, made that pitiful crying sound and died in my lap.

Swedish Flower genetic seem to be in the toilet. Someone else here said they bred them for a bit but had a terrible time. I'm going to contact them and ask about their experiences.

This is rediculous.
