Official Squatch Watchers

That is ungodly cold.
:tongue

Extra layers??? I don't think there can be enough to stop that cold.

:barnie

Layers and layers
I weigh a ton with them... I take water to one of four coops, check for eggs and waddle back in to warm up... take off most of the layers....repeat every half hour with water to a different coop... Otherwise I get frozen eggs:rant

Then when it snows I have to plow 4 drives and of course shovel chicken paths.. usually it's warm enough the eggs don't freeze so quick

I know people in more northern states and Canada have this as a nice winter day though :bow

Girl, I tried! Just ended up shootin asprin across the kitchen. These little crackers are hard!
Iv'e been putting them in the mort and pestle and just cracking down on them that way and iv'e still managed to launch a few.:gig
Lay it flat on the counter.
Then center your two pointer finger tips on top of it and press down and out hard.
It should snap right in half.

I'd shrivel up and die at these temps omg!:barnie

We had well water at the last house, it was mineral rich and left a shell on everything tasted god awful too! You haven't lived until you have chiseled the toilet clean lol!
Funny hubs says he won't drink the tap water, yet he does he just dosen't know it. I don't lift those big jugs if I don't have to. If he isn't here the bottles get filled from the tap.
yeah, son says our well water smells like sulfur but i don't smell it myself, husband drinks the tap water but i smell and taste the chlorine BUT when husband makes coffee, sometimes he'll say the coffee taste funny and then buys a gallon of "spring water" to make the coffee with, me i just don't drink much water:)

I had a frozen egg the other day. I swear she got off the roost in the night to lay it. It was split so perfectly I let it thaw then ate it. LOL

Well poop! How bad is the damage underneath?

Nunny, Chicky,
I got the busted kindle put back together. The shattered screen makes some things twitchy but it looks like I will be able to save my pictures!
:)
Not really any damage. There's some two by fours under there that we're helping hold up the wire and tarp but they weren't by the part that snapped off the building. I tried to pull it up yesterday but underneath all the snow is ice and my drain isn't working because it's sagging so low. I'll have to wait until things are more liquid and I can get into that space.
If I’m going to use liguid I’ll use the Elector PSP. I’m more worried about the temperature. Current forecast is a high of 39* on Monday but we then go to a high of -2* on Wednesday. Low of -12*. Supposed to be warmer temperatures a few days in a row next weekend. Not sure I should wait that long.

How the Pat crow did they get mites in winter!?!
Didn't Cappy or someone have mites last winter too?

If it makes you feel any better tomorrow will be 62 with a low of 42
I'm not saying I hate you, but I'm not happy with you right now.

My first go around with lice was a test of my patience. I tried the dust. No dead bugs. I tried coconut oil. The chickens looked ready for the fry pan, but still had bugs. That's when I went nuclear on the little creepy crawlies! I spent the big bucks and bought the Elector PSP. It really is buggy napalm. One and done, dead skin critters! It is a liquid though. In these temps that worries me. I don't have to soak the birds with it but the idea is to get it to their skin. Cold wet skin is bad. Even with a down coat.
I may be out there with a q-tip dabbing birdie butth¤les strategically.

And in case anyone want some buggy napalm....please let me know!

... I ordered chicks...
You might try Bag Balm or Vaseline on their legs also. They'll hide underneath the scales.
I am in will county north of you... supposed to be worse WednesdayView attachment 1654732
This week has been tough enough
I feel your pain.

i won't drink tap water either unless my husband changes it from city water to our well water, i don't like the chlorine taste, we had our well water for about 35 years til they ran a city water line out in the country, but its ok to wash with, and believe when i say, if you let the city water sit, it puts a black ring around the top of a glass jar or the commode( or water container for chicks)
We also use a Brita or Pur faucet mount filter. We have City water and it tastes like swimming pool water and it's gross. When I live with my mom the kids drank bottled water because she had well water and it was disgusting.

I would get an impartial third party to see what they think. If it does smell like rotten eggs then you can always bleach the well.
