Put water in the bottom and it will be double hard to jump.
water is hard this time of the year :gig
You would need a bigger and stronger setup for Norway rats.
7 gal bucket or trash can

I do worry about them chewing through plastic w/- liquid water or windshield washer fluid in the bottom

Ok I made a modified throw together of that trap.
We will see if I get anything.
No water in it since once it resets itself there is a full lid on it.
I figure they cannot jump out if there is no opening.

Mine is crude but the plank tips like it should and resets. It should take very little weight to trigger the tip.
I may need to bait the ramp. I will go to home depot and see what they have for a scent trail bait type stuff.

Oh and our water is very hard this time of year too. Completely frozen waterers every morning.

The mice would fall into frozen water! Is that what the anti freeze is for or to kill the mice or rats?

supposedly windshield washer fluid doesn't attract animals as much as regular antifreeze... not sure... but they would drown in it instead of standing on hard water
