Official Squatch Watchers

March 30th is tempting! My babies hatch for pickup April 22nd. I could have a whole flock of little fuzz butts running around! :jumpy:jumpy:jumpy

My broody queen was thinking about it too. So I don't think will a have a hard time convincing her. :yesss: Hopefully she accepts day old hatchlings.

I did snag another little pallet today so I can finish off that bit of floor. What type of vapor barrier? I'm afraid I'd trap moisture on top of it....

Update on Princess Frannie

Standing neck in normal position. See how it almost folded in half? The lower part is healed but I think to was scraped upward to make that ball.

Better view of wound. She's now Princess Frannie cause you'd think it was the end of the world, me trying to get a dang picture of her neck!

Aww, glad the princess is better! Nunny this is what I used.https://www.homedepot.com/p/Certain...er-with-Smart-Vapor-Retarder-902018/205920791

I guess my only concern with the vapor barrier is that moisture would build up on top. They had managed to jam shavings between the cracks on the pallets and around the edges. It was damp under there. Looked like really nice compost. LOL

I had wanted to rearrange in there some and plan it out better with nicer weather. Wanted to add a poop board and such.

Hhhhhmmmm.....

She is looking much better!

I would think a 6 mil plastic sheeting would also work.
I don't remember if you have floor joists built in the coop or not.....

Here we don't need vapor barrier since we are a desert (ish) area. That and all my structures are on decking piers. :hmm

I really keep thinking airflow, airflow, airflow. :hmm
No floor joists. Cement floor in front dirt in the back. (Like a mullet. Business in the front but party in the back)

I was going to do an apron around the outside were the dirt is in the coop as extra protection against digging.

There is also this bit of an issue...
The red line is the outside of the building. Where the dirt part is the structure has wood around the base. Not 4×4 like the wall structure but a 2x6.... Built like a pole barn.

The purple line is the edge of the pallet. Obviously it doesn't fit between the wall supports. So there is a little gap there. Maybe 2" wide. That of course was filled with shavings but those weren't moldy.
What I'm saying is putting holes in the outside at the base would be fine except they wouldn't go under the floor....:he

So about that fence raising, coop warming party...... bring tools and your thinking cap. I'll supply the nuns farts.:gig

Did you or anyone make a test batch of farts today?

I vote concrete in the future given how it is built. Bagged concrete is heavy as all get out but cheaper than a truck.....
Depending on how much you have to fill in it may be a decent option.
Is there concrete under where your bird is standing in the pic?

Did you or anyone make a test batch of farts today?

I was going to but power has been iffy here today. :hmm
