Good afternoon! Sounds like we all had similar nights lol! I didn't have dogs, foxes, or kid music nooo I had OWLS! One on top of the shed maybe 15 feet from my window, hootin back and forth with another one in the woods.
I like owl hoots, just not that close!
Pretty owl though, looked like a barn owl didn't give a crap about me opening the door and trying to shoo it off either. I'm about as threatning as a marshmallow apparently.:caf

My own mother would lavish gifts on my daughter (the older of my kids) and completely ignore my son's birthday/christmas/Easter etc.

When my daughter turned 4 and my mother brought her a bunch of gifts and nothing had been done for my son just 2 months earlier.....
My daughter said... "You are a mean grandma. You made my bubba cry. You can leave and never come back."

I will never forget that. It was heartbreaking for my son.

I kept waking up hearing a train, low cloud cover and the sound traveled a couple of miles

That's how my ex was w/ my kids. They'd get the younger one nice gifts and the older one would get things like pencils and erasers. I think they've finally stopped being jerks at this point. My kids are to the point where they don't get toys anymore so they get a lot of gift cards/ clothes from them. I am SUPER anal about making sure I spend the same amount/ get comparable gifts for both my kids. It's actually really easy b/c they're a little over 2 years apart and they both like mostly the same thing. I buy most gifts in 2s, just in different colors if possible. IDK why it was so hard for their dad to do the same thing. Now, I get the whole, I didn't have $$ when it was your birthday thing, but either you make up for it later, or you do likewise for everyone. Last year the older one got a carp bday b/c her sis was still in the hospital, but we did the cake thing later and I bought her a video game later since I could only shop at the gift shop in the hospital. She was disappointed, but she understood.

I know people have that whole 'it's not about them' thing, but it IS about them.. getting a new sibling is a big deal & they should get to celebrate their new role too.

I totally agree with you @apryl29 !

When someone I know has a “new” baby I always bring something practical for them as a baby gift, such as a case of diapers (check ahead for size and brand preference if any-or if even using disposable diapers)
Gift cards are great and very appreciated too like to the local grocery store or a nice local eating place where they can treat themselves to a decent carryout meal....
But for the “old” baby...
That’s where I shine.
A gift bag usually include some kind of mess free coloring book *in case mom and dad are distracted , a small soft toy like a stuffed animal, *not big enough that they can smother their sibling with it, and some books that “they” can read to their new sibling. *no hardbacks!
 
Hehe, I love how you childproof the gift.
I always just sack up some playdoh. They can't do anything malicious with playdoh can they? Please say no.:lau
