Official Squatch Watchers

Well I just lost a piglet that was dumped by mom,but my niece who was subject of an amber alert was found safe and sound. Ben on a bit of an emotional roller coaster.
I am sorry about the piglet and relieved to hear that the niece is save!

What a time you are having for sure

@21hens-incharge how are the chickens doing?

Morning & afternoon.

Cloudy today, but warmer than yesterday. I am enjoying our spring weather, but I am in no hurry for summer weather. Summer will be here too soon for me.

Doing ok here.
I found that my cross beaked Orpington has mites last night. :hmm

That certainly did not make me happy. I spent a good portion of today cleaning, scrubbing and spraying the big coop. Tonight as they roost.....well let's just say they ain't gonna like me much. Since I have to treat them all I might as well trim nails and butt fluff too. :lau
Maybe I should take a chair in there too. :hmm

The bitty babies are doing well though.

How are all your pretty birdies doing?

You been gone a long long time. We thought you ran away from our crazy antics. :p
I know we are all glad you are back!
:wee

I had to run away from someone on here and take a break.

Last year I was going to pick up some chicks and when I got to the ladies house she had a breakout of mites in her brooder boxes. She lost a few babies, but it sounded like she my have over dusted them. I wasn’t there to witness, but she made a comment later on some where having trouble breathing. Anyway.
What is butt fluff?? I have trimmed nails, but never butt fluffed. For sure take a chair!!!

Mom and babies are doing great. Despite one already having feathering, they have bonded.

I have a few big Brahmas that get so FLUFFY on the backside they cannot clear the feathers so poo gets stuck there. If I keep them trimmed a bit they stay clean.

I used permethrin 10 to spray the coop and will use the same on the birds. Yes it is still cold at night here but not cold enough to do harm.

Hard saying if the dusting she did was a bit much or if the mites got the babies. I would be totally freaked mites got on babies.

I hope whoever you had to run from is no longer on here. If they are they best behave!

My little Pearl got pecked in the eye or maybe poked it with a stick! I went out and she was standing on the woodpile looking all sad. I get close enough and see her one eye closed. It's all watery but I don't see any damage. A red spot just outside the corner of it. Put some eye ointment in it to be safe. Working on the small birds is way harder then working on the bigger ones!

The coop is treated, just gotta do the birds.....that I refuse to chase all over the run to catch.

The plan is to use the headlamp after they have gone to roost, grab bird quietly, sit in chair, check feet, trim butt fluff, band one leg, put back on roost.

The banding is so I know who got treated. Next treatment the band gets removed once treated.

I will let you know if it turns into a flogging circus. :lau

There is a lake just 1/8th mile from us. We are definitely in the flight path to and from it.
We have doves, black cap chickadees, several types of finch, robins, jays, and some I haven't identified yet. Tons of birds here.

Hubby is going to remove the pine tree the doves nest in so that carrier is reduced.

Poor baby. It looks all kinds of sore. :(
