It makes one wonder how many people are waking around with insulin resistance and glucose readings through the roof and just don't know.
There are a lot of people who are until they keel over dead or rushed to the emergency room or they end up with one of the comorbid conditions that come with diabetes (worsening eyesight, sores, neuropathy). You can live with this for quite a long time before it is discovered. It would have been nice for you to have gotten these results 2 TATERING YEARS AGO when the doctor first knew.

When we go to lunch with our carb-sensitive friends we go to Carl's Jr. and he gets a hamburger with extra leaf lettuce for the bun. Works, and he says he has grown to like his burgers that way.
That's what my friend w/ the wheat allergy does, except instead of eating it like a hamburger she cuts it all up and eats it like a salad. It's just easier for her that way.

Question for you all: can adult birds eat medicated chick crumble? It is hard to find un-medicated feed around here. And if I get the medicated chick feed that is freshly milled (my preference), I have to buy 50lbs. I was thinking of sharing it with the bigs so that it doesn't get old/stale but wanted to check if that is ok.
I thought the medicated chick feed was the prevent/ treat coccidosis, but I thought it wasn't good to feed it to the adults (females) b/c it could end up in their eggs... that may not be true. The medicated feed I had said to switch when they started laying, but that may have been just b/c you'd be switching to layer feed. I guess I thought it was b/c you didn't want the laying birds having the medicated feed. When my little ones were in the general population I also switched everyone to the broiler or starter/grower. But I mixed in feather fixer b/c I liked pellets, but needed crumble for the babies. For some reason they didn't have non layer feed in pellets except feather fixer which was more expensive than I'd like for feeding only that. I do know that you're not supposed to feed roosters layer feed b/c the calcium is bad for them. Since I mix feed I just hope that William doesn't get too much of the layer feed.

It's beautiful! Do you know if it's a boy or girl? Reminds me of a rocker from the 80's.

Well, we had some progress today. It seems that my septic contractor has been bugging the telephone company so much that they sent a supervisor out here today to see if there is any way to get the buried phone line out of the way of the septic field and how much it would cost. Well, they look at how the junction box is set up and said "Well, that's illegal." Which means they are going to have to eat most of the cost associated with getting the buried line out of the way. It sounds like we may only have to pay for the cable, which they are going to pay to have strung over 3 power poles to get it out of the way (it is cheaper than reburying the line). They didn't give us an estimate, but hopefully things get moving soon.
That's... news. Not sure if it's good or bad, but at least it's something. Did they say how long it's going to take for them to get the wiring scheduled? I hope it's not too long so the septic people can get to work. They're cutting it really close here.

Oops, I forgot to say in the original post that not all of these birds will be staying with me, only the Derps and Russian Orloffs. I couldn't meet the minimum order requirement by myself, so I got my MIL and my father to split an order with me. BUT I get to raise all the chicks for the first couple weeks before sending some of them to their new home. I am looking forward to getting lots of chick snuggling time :D

They are coming June 13 or 14th!!! :ya

Last year I could not find unmedicated for love or money. TSC was sold out of it for most of the season :(

YAY! Thank you both!!!! That means I can buy the big bag straight from the mill :yesss:
It's nice they could order with you so you could get some chicks. That gives you plenty of time to get things ready and it'll be warm out by then so you won't have to worry about them getting too cold. So exciting!

Sometimes I think my choice to do endangered breeds has deprived me of all the fun you folks are having.
Well, you could get a separate coop to keep some birds just for fun.
How is your predator problem? Has it stopped coming around?

With my recent foray in hosting and hatching I'm considering breeding.
:th
You are really brave. At least you have plenty of space outside to get a good production going.

Jackson is settling in nicely.
Awwww. How's he doing with the birds & buns?

:frow:frow Good morning.

How was night one with Jackson Suzi??
He has such a sweet face. :)

The dietary changes I am making are going to be lifelong. I know this is a very serious condition.
I definitely don't want my tombstone to read "she just couldn't give up potatoes" .

I really think that all the pre-made, sugar and starch loaded things as well as all the white bread with so many ingredients you need a chemist to understand are kind of creating an epidemic.
It makes one wonder how many people are waking around with insulin resistance and glucose readings through the roof and just don't know.
At least you've accepting that you need to make some changes. So many times people won't make the changes they need. When my daughter was seeing a nutritionist they said to make sure you read labels & when buying bread to make sure it says 'whole wheat flour' as the first ingredient instead of enriched flour or enriched wheat flour. Of course you'd still have to check the other nutritional info to make sure it's ok for you, but so many times they're peddling 'whole wheat bread' that isn't as whole wheat as it seems. Just b/c the bread is brown doesn't mean it's healthy. I remember my gma always eating this wheat bread when I was a kid and I always thought it was healthier b/c it was 'wheat bread'. SMH.. wrong.

Oh we are making sure to tell EVERYONE involved that "Hey, VERY pregnant lady here who needs to move in ASAP!" My septic guy is good, he's on top of it. He's the one that's been pestering the phone company.

I talked to my well guy yesterday and he'll be out later this week to take some measurements and work up some pricing. We should have water by the end of next week.

That's good. It's nice to have someone else to do the nagging for you. Are you guys able to start moving the non necessities over and get stuff put away or are you still waiting for some inside stuff to get finished up?

Good morning! Got a little morning rain going on, not too bad just misting. Let the kids out all together again, love opening the littles gate and having them explode out! They still have that excitement about getting loose it is adorable. :)
That's the best, it's like a bunch of tiny dinosaurs escaping. I had one that was SOOOOOoo excited that I was coming to let them out that she launched off the roost too soon and slammed into the door, then fell 4 feet to the ground. She's a special girl.

First night was great....he whined for just a few minutes then slept til 5AM. I had to actually wake him up to go out. Last night was a little tougher. He cried for about half an hour. Then whined a little around midnight. Then was quiet til 6. No accidents in the house yet

I have a feeling he had prior tests that showed it as well.
Blessing in disguise is it made me check mine. I have been feeling yucky for years. Everything I have been dealing with fits with diabetes.
sweets have never been my struggle.....mine is potatoes. I have never been big on bread so I don't miss that.

Yes, bread is very misleading as are many other "healthy" products in how they are marketed.
Those tortillas I found have a net carb of 5. Regular white tortillas are 35 net carbs... Um that is huge!!
Another sold at Costco has a net carb of 6.
it's craaaaazy that there is that huge of a difference.

I am super happy for you that he is such a good boy.
:ya
And he is adorable too. :love:love

Lol! These haven't worked out the step down at the door iv'e got about 50/50 jumpers and face planters. Still better than day 1 when they all just fell out, luckily it is just one small step.:D
