Do you have a house chicken while you're repairing, or is it still livable? My production girls are/were fairly raptory.. they're the feather peckers in my group. I always worry about adding to the flock b/c I have several low rung girls [Olive included] that get picked on more than I'd like. I think I'm going to hold off on any new additions until I'm able to get my own house. How are your renovations going?
My house chicken is Dylan the African Grey. She likes to get on the floor and scratch like a chicken, though! Chicken house demolished before I could even get chickens, it will be fixed up by the time I get some "raptors" to lay eggs for me. In spring, I'm looking forward to getting some of Bob's Barred Hollands.

Well the broken puppy is getting good vet care and the lady owner is an EMT so I am sure he will be just fine.

Would we welcome a busted dog into our home? Of course we would.
However we are looking to get a female and he is a he.

I survived the puppy pile lol. :D

Gretchen the mom dog slept and was a good girl. The puppies had just eaten so slept too. I believe hubs is looking at the 2 runt females in Gretchens litter. I am leaning toward the darker one. No way to predict which hubs will ultimately choose.

Yes my birds seem to miss a flock member when there is a passing. It took Sandy a week to get past losing the EE bff she had. I have seen my flock more subdued when a member goes.
:hugs Time helps.
We always ended up with the runts. I think they have a better spirit than the others. Good to hear the little one will be ok. I would have never thought being stepped on by it's mama could hurt it so much, but we never had puppies, just kittens & hamsters. I guess it makes sense though considering how tiny pups are and how big dogs can be.

I'll be sure to give Nibbler some extra love (& treats). I hope it's just that she's upset bc of the losses. She'd always seemed more like a loner.. going off to range by herself away from the others, but maybe one of the recent losses was her chicken bff. After I got rid of the boys everyone seemed relieved. Jaiden was the only loss of a hen, but it was winter & I didn't really notice any difference in how anyone acted.

Yeah mom is a big dog. This week's weigh in put her at 114#. The puppies are ranging between 2.8 and 4# each so very tiny in comparison.
The little broken boy is a 3.5# little dude. His cast makes it really hard for him to move around to pee or poop. :(

They have been needing supplemental feedings since there are so many.

I did suggest a new layout for the pen they are in that should help mom move around and lay down without smooshing anyone else.

I would still keep an eye on Nibbler. It could be the upset to the flock but....It could be she doesn't feel well.

So sorry for your loss, but glad to hear from you. Hope all is well for you and your family, otherwise. [Rae had her baby if you didn't go back that far... cute pictures throughout the thread recently, just search for her username in the thread & you'll find them.]

So glad she's still alive & you've got someone who can take care of her. It's so hard when they need 24/7 care. It'll be good to start over fresh next spring. Hopefully whatever it was will move on.

I agree. 12 is a nice amount & they'll have more space in the winter if I have to do the locking up thing.

Sucks for the poison ivy & the down trees, but yay for the free tree cutting. Are you going to stack the wood or have a HUGE bonfire?

:lau

I love your title.. not as LOL as Chicky's Wattle Fondler, but it made me smile when I noticed it.

Oh.. wow. Sounds like some of the crazy carp that happens in my family. My cousin was absolutely certain that she and her sisters were going to get their mom's portion of my gma's estate & was mad when my gma gave her car to my dad instead of her. Then she was livid when my gma didn't give her the house & my dad bought it from the estate. Entitled is the word for these people. Let them believe what they want. If they can't figure out what she is all about then that's there problem.

Very descriptive! A+ for creative writing this week!
Don't you love it when people let you know that you did the right thing when you stopped talking to them. Haven't talked to my mom in months.. my daughter is still friends w/ her on fb & she showed me a post where my mom bashed me for not talking to her and that she needed a ride to the dr in Oct.. Of course when everyone attended their pity party no one bothered to ask why I wasn't speaking to her, or why it only seemed to be an issue when she needed something. I'm tired of being the fixer.

:hugs

This made me laugh. I told my coworker what you said and he said "everyone should have a happy bhole day everyday.

Congrats!

That poor little pupper! Soooo I'm guessing you don't want the broken one.

How'd you do?

Smart to get it checked out, esp since the lyme disease could cover up symptoms of heart issues. I hope everything is ok!
I did well at the swap, but didn't sell out like some folks.

The spring always seems like a good time to start w/ new chickens. That way they're good and ready by the time winter comes along.

Poor little guy. I hope he gets the hang of it. It kind of reminds me of when my tiny human broke her arm when she was 2. It was so uncomfortable she'd sleep lying face down on my stomach so her arm could hang down, then she'd beat me in the face w/ her cast arm. Good times.
Is it a real cast or the vet wrap? I ask b/c they grow so fast, if it's a real cast I'd think it'd need changed before it heals.

Good questions. It is a real cast and will be checked twice a week with the second check involving a change.
He is a very expensive puppy. :th
So far they have spent 1800 on just this break. The emergency vet yesterday scalped them at $1500.
Today he did not go to CSU. He went to their usual vet who is treating twice a week with cast changes for far less. I think she said it would be the initial 300 then $50 twice a week. I may have that wrong.....:hmm

The ER vet told them surgery, pins and $8000. Totally nuts!

My first dog was a chihuahua, and he broke his leg jumping off the sofa. Vet put a finger splint on it. I can't imagine it cost much back then. The fees vets charge now are outrageous! Everything I can do for my animals, I do myself. Including vaccines.

I don't do the vaccines myself but treat what I can.
I am sure the major freak out was not knowing just how bad tiny screaming puppy was hurt.
The owners are really invested in those little wrinkled goobers.

I know, I had a Papillon that needed microsurgery for a urinary abnormality. Spent a fortune on it, the breeder gave me a replacement pup.
