Official Squatch Watchers

Yeah, it really sucks . Wondering if i will end up giving up on chickens. Breaks my heart when they just die. Not much i can do. Already giving vitamin supplements in water and feed.
It is sad when a baby chick dies, but I have never had an older one to die. This second go around has been a very eye opening experience.

Can you send one to UVA for testing? Might give you something to go on.

Sassy, post details (they have a template) on the em thread of what you're seeing. It's really difficult to get the first aid folks to a "chit chat" thread. Let me know when you've posted and I'll try to call out some folks.

I mixed her up from electrolytes, but she ain’t having it. Look like she ate a few worms though. Just a wait and see.
Can you use a dropper to get some electrolytes in her , or maybe some
Polyvisol or nutridrench on tiny bits of bread?

Did you feel for an egg inside?

I'm so sorry. I know Sesame is special. :hugs:hugs
Sesame just ate some worms, but her breathing is labored and her comb is not as bright. I love her!!! I feel so bad!! Since I have these new chicks, giving Sesame her own space has been frustrating at times and I have thought at times how much easier it would be without her. I didn’t mean it! I take it back. I don’t want her to go. She has been my buddy for almost 2 years.:hit:hit:hit:hit:hit:hit
That's a human emotion from a moment of exhaustion.
It meant nothing to her, or you or the chickens gods up above. :hugs

I don't know where it is but with the symptoms i have little doubt.
There's a farm not too terribly far from you that sells BR/RIW crosses for laying. He keeps his girls for two laying years then sells them as stewing hens. But he'll also sell small quantity layers in their first year. That said, I'll warn you his birds aren't cheap, but he breeds for survival and foraging skills.

And where would i keep them? I would always be afraid of cross contamination. Plus i am a purebred snob, i like looking at pretty birds. In fact if i had to choose between good looking birds and eggs i prefer good looking birds! Does anyone know if quail can get Mareks ? The guineas are fine.
