Thanks. I have just under 6 pounds of bacon from this girl. What type of hogs do you use and how long do you grow them out?
I have American Guinea hogs. I got 18lbs of belly from my bigger one (who had white boots) and just over 3 lbs from my small one (all black). They were born, August 2018 and we harvested them in Dec, so.... 1 year and 4 months. I think, all told, I maybe got 12 bags of feed for them over that time. They were mainly kept on kitchen scraps and squash.
According to the guy that helped me butcher them any AGH that have white on them grow out faster and bigger than their all black counter parts. I like them because they grow slowly and can be sustained on a higher percentage of scraps/forage. Next year I intend to freeze chicken guts for them. One youtuber I follow does this for his pigs and it works quite well.
