His willingness to get on the ground makes me think that, too. Older hawks lothe being on the ground, and tear off a piece of the prey to take up to a branch or the nest & eat it.Someone in the other thread said it looks like a young red tail.

Good Morning! Sam's might be saving on labor by not stocking the shelves & filling curbside orders. They cut every penny they can!
They swoop past the pen the Hollands are in, and all the chick's heads go up, and they freeze. Then run for the dog kennel shelters! That is with a solid roof they can't see through. Nesting season is over, now they are learning to hunt, even worse!
They do sit in the trees, and on the power poles. The huge crows we have harass them too much for them to hang around for long! Be nice to your crows!Holy moly! My pen might be a harder one to see in from the sides since the roof is 16x23 + a bit of overhang. They have taken to sitting in the neighbor across the alleys big pine trees. They can see in from there but it bothers the birds less.
We have coyotes, our birds of prey do not want to be on the ground like that at all. Your Christmas list might include a nice puppy. Even a good size Terrier will put the fear into a hawk. I would like to get a Brittany Spaniel again, my old one was a great bird dog. Easy to train, not to big. She would have never allowed a Red Tail Hawk to perch in her yard! They weigh ~ 40 - 50 pounds, not as big a food bill as a LGD, either! My mom loaned me their fake owl. We have him on a step in post and we’ll move him around any time we are outside. Seems to be working.

Whatever we get, I am NOT having an indoor dog. I’m DONE with indoor pets. My in-laws has a dog in the old farmhouse when we moved up here. There was a MAJOR flea infestation that took the better part of a year to resolve. Since we had an infant in the house we didn’t want to bomb the house so we did it the long, hard way of vacuuming 2x a day for months only to have a resurgence later. I’m still very traumatized by this.We have coyotes, our birds of prey do not want to be on the ground like that at all. Your Christmas list might include a nice puppy.
