How are you watering your ducks for winter?

Sooooo the plan....

Dig out a square about 40" x40" sloped to exit the run.
Frame it in and line with used shavings bags.
Fill with rock, cover rock with hardware cloth and a 2'x2' concrete paver then have bucket with heater on that.

The hope is that it will reduce the mud/ice while directing water out of the run and preventing the stones from winding up in undesired places.

I am looking at the stall mats with holes to give web protection to duck feet on the hardware cloth.

That is the plan.....which is completely unknown if it will even remotely work.

I have a 5 quart bucket, a 6 gallon tub and a rubber 8 gallon tub. I will give them the 6 gallon tub when weather is good for a bath but plan to use the smaller one for daily water because it will be easier to change.

Oh and we had power run to the desired water zone.

Wow, that makes my plan seem pretty lame! Pallet over our french drain with a big dog dish on top. Fresh warm water from the house in freezing weather. But, we only have a few days/nights that are that cold.

Could use a water circulator instead of a heater? My worry would be the heater would run constantly and crap out quick. But moving water won’t freeze. I don’t know what the ducks would think of an actual fountain but a pump in the pool would just keep the water moving. Not that duck butts in the pool won’t do the same. 😂

That works on a local small lake/pond near us, not sure you would have deep enough water to not freeze and be able to circulate in something small.

I'm so happy right now!

I found a solution to cleaning the nasty iron stains out of my garden tub! I've tried many things and it always requires lots of scrubbing and elbow grease. Even then there were parts of the tub that weren't touched by it. The most effective thing I tried previously was adding citric acid to hot water after I was done my bath and let it eat into the iron stains overnight. However, what is leftover is not adhered to the tub but was rather sticky and didn't come off cleanly. Then I got a brain wave. I tried a magic eraser. It cleaned it up perfectly and got more off in 10 min of scrubbing than I've ever gotten off before! There are a few deeply stained spots that need a little more work, but the tub is 90% free of iron stains!

I will have to try that on the rust stains in the old sink in the bunkhouse, I have been working on it with comet. Little by little it has faded, not gone though.
