Ah, my drain is nickle. The metal comes clean really quick with the acid water. You might want to just try spraying the stains with the acid and protecting the drain while it soaks for a bit. It shouldn't have a problem if you rinse it past quickly.
Maybe I will put it on a rag and put the wet rag on the stains. It is an old sink.

Wow, that makes my plan seem pretty lame! Pallet over our french drain with a big dog dish on top. Fresh warm water from the house in freezing weather. But, we only have a few days/nights that are that cold.

While my plan is elaborate it is because I don't have a french drain or anything anywhere close to it. Stupid clay soil has me struggling a bit.

Could use a water circulator instead of a heater? My worry would be the heater would run constantly and crap out quick. But moving water won’t freeze. I don’t know what the ducks would think of an actual fountain but a pump in the pool would just keep the water moving. Not that duck butts in the pool won’t do the same. 😂

Mine won't have the big pool in winter. It requires a floating de-icer which takes up a lot of room and draining it in winter to clean and refill....not gonna happen.

I have an old bath tub I have been thinking of re-purposing for the ducks. Heavy cast iron, so I have to be sure where I want it before I move it. Put it up on blocks so that I can use the drain to empty it. Real live yellow duckies in the tub. (When they are bigger):p

So....be aware they will add rocks to the pool/tub/pond. If you do a ball valve to direct water away make it so you can power back flush to prevent clogging. Or....keep a grate on that tub drain so rocks don't fit.

I think it could be very functional and cute especially with a ducky deck so they have room to roam the edges. Mine use theirs constantly.

I took the spade fork in the run to loosen the top of the ground and ran the tiny electric tiller. It is hard freaking clay but I am getting through it.

I did not run power anywhere near the pool. The ducks splash about 10 gallons out each time I fill it. BZZZZZAPP!! Nope.

While working outside the ducks got comfortable with all my human noise and went to the pool. I noticed half the girls froze and were looking up. I didn't hear ANYTHING but did see the hawk as it flew over a minute later.

It is good to know they knew it was around even though they were on the north and it flew in from the (obscured by the giant roof south).

Ok NOW I want ducks. Never really wanted 💩 cannons before. They are cute and all but nope... too much poo. The idea of ducks swimming in bathtub in my yard... I'm sold! Little tiny call ducks!

I will have to try that on the rust stains in the old sink in the bunkhouse, I have been working on it with comet. Little by little it has faded, not gone though.
Check out Earthstone cleaning products. I have one for my kitchen sink. Its old stained porcelain with no finish left. So a drip of coffee is a brown spot in all of about 5 seconds. I even used it to get the green off the faucet.

For real Nunny.....these ducks keep a cleaner house then the chickens do. They do muck up the pool in seconds though.

For YEARS hubs would go on and on about how messy and gross ducks are.
Now he is in love with them.

I've seen ducks in action. They are adorable. I never wanted to deal with a pool and in winter. But a raised tub like that might not be as bad. But is on papers and have a drain with a hose in the bottom. Then I can unplug it and drain it away from where anything else is. It would be super cut with an old style spigot even if it didn't work. A tub tray with fake book and candle on so they have a platform to get to the deck. Yep... I'm planning...it's trouble.
