Our previous lab only wanted to sleep. We sent her to retreiver school and she got sent home. Flunked out! She would swim a little, but that was it. She was a fabulous, sweet, calm, loyal pet though. Emma, the current lab, was my husband’s Christmas gift from me last year. She is guaranteed to retrieve based on her British Heritage. We once had a black lab would would fetch, chase butterflies... yet HATED the water.... wouldn't go in the pool or crick for any amount of money... or scooby snax.
Hahahaha!! Emma is a retrieving machine and a great problem solver. Face in the water, jumping off the docks, swimming under cables. My husband has had 3 dogs and none would retrieve, so we are very excited to see that Emma actually does stuff.I had a dog that would retrieve rocks under water. The Shepherd we have now will retrieve rocks you throw into the woods, whether you want them or not!
Yeah I know. I put a link for my swap page in a thread for swaps (can't remember which one). I think it will also be a useful place to direct others to as well.
I hope you have a great day at school. My son is out all week for Thanksgiving.Hello everybodeeeeeeee!!!!!! I was going to guess two, but oh well! Welcome to the thread, @The Great Eel Man!!! Ugh, the cold front just hit us, and I'm hating it. My face has developed a constant flush from the wind chap I got yesterday while blowing leaves. I am not looking forward to leaving the comfort of my house in a few minutes to walk to the bus. I can hear the wind from in here! Sigh.
I did something similar where I clip to eye hooks I put into the coop frame. I didn't want the clip just hanging in the coop when the door was shut. My door is on the inside. How does your work with snow build up? I'm worried that snow might be an issue later on & the door won't open or close properly. I did have to move a pile of straw away from the door this morning, but I wasn't surprised since they dig around in in it a lot. I'm already seeing warping on the board I used, but it's just plywood. Next year I'll probably get something a little more sturdy to use, esp if this seems to be an issue as winter progresses. I didn't bother with a door before, but it's less to keep the chickens in and more to keep winter out. When it gets warm again I'll likely remove the door.I have a set up very similar. My door is in tracks on the outside of the coop. Big eye hook on the top of the door. Rope runs up to a pulley and over to the side of the run. I tied a carabiner on the rope and clip it to the fence to keep it open.
That's what I do. The first time I didn't was when one of the roosters thought he'd try and show me he was boss. He lost that battle but neither of us was happy with the situation. He's tried one or two more times since. Always in the coop. So now I escort him to the pop door before I leave the coop.
Wisdom teeth out just before Thanksgiving?!I'm back home peeps!Good morning!
Welcome Mr. Eel.
Sassy -you crack me up with your hidden chicks.
And Capricorn farm -I loved reading your building thread.
I didn't see any chickens except this pretty one which
I had to buy.

I did see lots of cows and sheep and mountains and had to stop a few times just to breathe the air and miss living there.

Came home hoarse from talking to my son the whole way home.
Have to pick up my daughter from the airport tomorrow then take the other one to the oral surgeon to have her wisdom teeth pulled.
It will be nice (and loud and crazy) to have all the kids at home for a bunch of days!
Pray that my son's dog doesn't kill any chickens this week. They will be on lockdown in their run until late afternoon, then they can free range until their bedtime.
During this time the dog will be on lockdown in the house.
And I gave my son a lecture about "the personaltater" not being allowed outside alone and how fast a determined dog could possibly dig under a run. Don't want to test our predator proofing.
But most importantly,
Don't want to set the dog up for a failure none of us would ever forget and for which my son would always feel guilty.
I am truly grateful to have been blessed with your friendship.
Thank you.![]()
My brother has 2 rules in his house. Rule #1: Don't let mama cut your hair & Rule #2: Don't touch the car. His wife cut their daughter's hair once and it was horrible. She just kept cutting, making it worse and worse. He came home and fixed it the best he could. If there's one near you, sign up for Great Clips, they have a $5 haircut sale every few months. You'll get coupons in the mail too. Some people refuse to pay $$ for their kids' haircut, but IMO it's well worth it, esp as they get older & start school. Also, dealing with a little kid who doesn't want to sit still is hard, esp w/ a sharp object in your hand and they are trained to deal with it.Oh and good morning everyone!
My back is feeling much better today. A hot epsom salt bath works wonders!
Speaking of shaving heads, I gave my son is first haircut last week. He was starting to look like he had something between a mullet and a rat tail. I just trimmed up the back. It looked "ok" but I didn't have hair cutting scissors so he had some lines on the back of his head. Well, I bought hair cutting scissors and I decided to try to "fix" his hair cut. I only made it worse and he ended up looking like he had a bowl cut. I had to break out the clippers and give him a high and tight buzzcut like I give my husband. My baby doesn't have his baby locks anymore. He is fascinated by his peach fuzz though and keeps rubbing his head.
I cut my husband's hair and my own hair (really short and really long) It is in between lengths I have a problem with. Once my mom is back on two feet (she broke her leg 6 weeks ago) she'll take over my son's hair cuts (She's a hair dresser). The buzz cut looks alright on him but he's only 16 months and already bigger than most 3 year olds and the buzz cut makes him look even older. My brother has 2 rules in his house. What is the play?I wish I had this week off. We have a half day wednesday and Friday and Thursday off. The next two weeks are going to be absolutely crazy, bc the school play is on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of december. I'm in it, and we're scrambling to get costume items, and last minute reheasals.
Don't you hate that? Something as mundane as cutting their hair completely changes their appearance and makes them not a baby anymore.I cut my husband's hair and my own hair (really short and really long) It is in between lengths I have a problem with.
