Hello and happy Dec. 24th. So not ready but here we are. Betting DH had gingerbread for breakfast!

so, totally off topic (but actually about chickens, for once!)

what do y'all use (if anything) for the ground cover/bedding of your runs? cuz mine are getting soggy, muddy, and frigging stinky! i just have dirt, which at one time had a few bags of sand mixed in. now it's this fetid poopy slush, ughh.

Right now, lots of leaves. I also plan to dump the shavings from the coop in there. It helps that i have about half the run covered with metal roof. Makes a huge difference!

OMIGOD PBM!! Well it is what it is I suppose.
I think that covers the immediate feelings upon realizing it.

Yes there was a ball involved.

My runs get some grass hay and if really wet I lay pallets down for the girls. The hay really helps.

ETA. That dog house is 4x6 and 5' at the top.

I finally rolled out of bed. I’ve had a sore throat since last night so tried something awful this morning. I gargled with warm salt water then (yikes) squirted it up my nose! Like a forced nettie pot. Blew my nose really hard and oh gross... I don’t do snot.
Then I wrapped gifts and my “Austrian” Cattle Dog and I went out for some peaceful picture taking.

Good morning all.
Merry Christmas Eve.

When I get up in the morning I like to be quiet for a little while. Not long. But I need a half hour until my brain is ready for action and my tongue is ready for flapping.

I go through the morning motions feeding pets, tending chickens, making coffee, reading headlines, jotting down thoughts, and settling down to write, all with little conversation. I'm not grumpy. I'm just not ready to talk a bunch yet.
My pets get this.
They don't talk much either in the morning.

DH is the opposite. He's like a little kid. He turns on the tv loud, and starts talking.
Talking talking talking.
Running commentary on everything on the television. Pause, chatter, TV, Pause, chatter. TV.
Love him dearly but he's gonna have to cut this out


@Suzi18 Those cookies are gorgeous, Are they cranberries or cherries?

I love @rjohns39 suggestion about the electrolytes and think it's a great idea.
Do you have any?

They're cherries. It's a new recipe and they are delicious.

I am totally the same about getting up . I need at least an hour and hubby knows to not mess with me when i first get up.
