Yes there was a ball involved.

My runs get some grass hay and if really wet I lay pallets down for the girls. The hay really helps.

ETA. That dog house is 4x6 and 5' at the top.
Looks like he's having a blast. His doghouse is bigger than my coop.

.

Pretty messed up, right??!! lol I'm still cracking up, after the initial shock and horror wore off.

OMG, your puppy is so cute! :love:love:love

Pallets? what a great idea. Thank you! I do have some leaves in there, but they're wet. I'm thinking I should just put more in there if it ever dries up a little, cuz wet leaves are better than wet soggy poopmud.

Is hay better than straw to use for bedding? Thanks for the suggestions, you guys. I do have some styrofoam insulation panels covering about half the roofs in both the runs, and it does make a difference. Next year gonna put corrugated tin up.

I should make a sign for the dog house that says Clifford.
:hmm

My big guys use it for home base during tag. It's kind of hilarious.

I finally rolled out of bed. I’ve had a sore throat since last night so tried something awful this morning. I gargled with warm salt water then (yikes) squirted it up my nose! Like a forced nettie pot. Blew my nose really hard and oh gross... I don’t do snot.
Then I wrapped gifts and my “Austrian” Cattle Dog and I went out for some peaceful picture taking.

So peaceful and beautiful. :love

That last picture is greeting card material! So were a few from the other post! Breathtaking and serene.

Bird in the house! Bird in the house!

[oh, BTW, I guess I'm back?]

recipe please...:drool

I used vanilla instead of almond extract as I'm not a big almond flavored fan.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter softened
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 2-3 tablespoons maraschino cherry juice
  • 1/2 cup maraschino cherries chopped
  • 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chip morsels
Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cover cookie sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In large bowl with mixer beat butter until smooth band creamy. Beat in almond extract and powdered sugar. Turn mixer to low and slowly add flour mixing until just incorporated. Mix in maraschino cherry juice and cherries.Stir in chocolate chips
  3. Roll I'm to balls and place on parchment paper. Spray bottom of glass with non stick cooking spray and flatten balls. You will need to spray glass several times.
  4. Bake for 12-14 minutes. Allow to cool on pans for 5 minutes before removing to cooling racks.

so, totally off topic (but actually about chickens, for once!)

what do y'all use (if anything) for the ground cover/bedding of your runs? cuz mine are getting soggy, muddy, and frigging stinky! i just have dirt, which at one time had a few bags of sand mixed in. now it's this fetid poopy slush, ughh.

survey says?!
leaves, dried grass, garden waste.. winter weight (sand) from the truck in the spring rains.. first year I did shavings until I could gather free stuff

welcome back:celebrate

I like wood mulch when I can get it for free. Otherwise, I use some of my Mom's horse hay that got a little too moldy for the horse to eat, but is just fine for chickens.
