Bantams are supposedly really hard to sex. I hate when they mis-sex a bird... And most places have a 10% acceptable failure rate so they won't do anything about it. Can you deal w/ another boy or will you have to rehome him?Good to see you Ruby! I sold my Bantam Brahmas because I needed to size down and I didn’t enjoy them. Also sent a Cockerel with them. Now I have that “about 12” my husband initially thought I had. I also think one of my 6 week old Bantam Easter Eggers is a boy!It was sexed at My Pet Chicken.
Tell us about your Christmas Break! Sorry about your chicken. Do you have pictures?
Poor Odin. A bird could be blind and have a good chance of grabbing his parts.Do you have any pics of the bird? My bird w/ frost bite has either black bits on it's comb, or white areas. Is it possible that another bird bit her? I keep seeing my other birds grabbing and pulling on Odin's comb and waddles.
(I'm totally down with that.) My family and I saw the new star wars! It was awesome!I know it is difficult. I am not saying anything bad about them, maybe I should remove their name. They have been absolutely wonderful to work with. I can keep him if everybody gets along.Bantams are supposedly really hard to sex. I hate when they mis-sex a bird... Those ladies are HORRIBLE! They reach into his cage while he's eating and were grabbing at him. I had to put a piece of plexiglass next to his treat feeder so they couldn't get to him. The girls sit there and stare at him trying to figure out how to get to him.. the little raptors.Poor Odin. A bird could be blind and have a good chance of grabbing his parts.
Oh, I know it happens & they know it happens... That's how we got Steve. They (the local store I got him from) ONLY get girls, you know. (& were totally not helpful when I called about it). I totally understand being disappointed though. At least you have the means to keep him. It's like the whole 'tossing in extra chicks for warmth' thing. Like if you only wanted X# of birds AND you wanted only girls, but then they toss in a couple extras for warmth and you end up w/ birds you didn't want that could be boys & possibly a breed you didn't want and now you have to deal with that.I know it is difficult. Haven't experienced it yet, but I remember reading that the longer they're broody the harder it is to break them, but it can't hurt them unless they stop getting up to eat & drink. Personally, if it were me I'd probably just let her do her thing until it gets warmer enough to deal with her, but I'm sure someone else w/ more experience could give you some advice. Too bad you can't just let her hatch out a couple. So my Lilla is broody... how on earth can I break a broody when the temps aren’t even going to hit 30*? I take any eggs she’s sitting on. When I take her out of the nest box and put her on the floor she pancakes out and won’t move. I’m worried it’s to cold to put her in a crate on the floor of the coop and I don’t have a way to heat water in that instance anyway.
How long can she stay broody? She was laying eggs but hasn’t in a few days now. Not worried about not getting eggs but is it bad for her to stay broody?
