MPC says they don’t toss in extra birds, put that must be a common thing since they mentioned it. The Bantam Barred Rock died just after the 48 hour mark, they were so sweet about it and even sent me a code for a free full size chick of equal value. Of course I would have to buy additional chicks and shipping, works in their favor.

Hubby keeps talking about going on 2 week vacation this summer. As bad as I want to add a couple more specific colors, I cannot do any more chicks! For travel reasons and I am ready to be done with the chick phase! Now I have to wait until 3 of the chicks grow big enough to integrate. 2 of them I might be able to now, but I think another couple weeks might be better.

I know what you mean... having animals makes it really complicated to travel. Could you add them after you get back? It'll give the newbies a chance to integrate and get settled before adding more work for yourself.

18 degrees, my chickens look like miserble, puffed up flamingos. Worse yet they're all giving me the stink eye like i made it cold.

cod liver oil works on frostbite combs too.. helps w/circulation
red pepper in the feed.. 1/4 teaspoon per bird is supposed to help w/circulation also

Coop thermometer reads a whopping 9 here. Birds all wanted OUT and OUT NOW.

Ha! I just opened the door if it's really that bad they could go snuggle up in the coop. They're just drama queens, I'm not forcing them to freeze.

My mom txted me a few min ago that it's only 6 degrees out... -11 windchill. The internet says it's 9 which isn't much better. I'm not going to open the coop so they can go outside. It's not supposed to hit 15 for a few hours still... Tomorrow it's supposed to be 22 so they can go outside then.

I can, I just don’t know that I will. I just wish I could do it now. Hubby only wants to hear “I cannot because of the chicks” so many weekends. Haha! I can leave when they are older, because I have everything set up and a friend who has had chickens to check on them. Babies are a whole different ballgame.
I really want a barred or mottled BC. There is a lady 1 hour away who has a black and a splash BC. 12 weeks old!!!! Perfect to go with my 14 weekers! I don’t have a place to quarantine them, and I probably wouldn’t anyway (even though I know I should) . I would love to have them, but they aren’t exactly what I want. So, I don’t know. I should be thankful for what I have. Practice what I preach.
