I think it is toxic if they eat it. I admit that as a brand new newbie chicken mama that didn't know any better I used cedar chips in my brooder. Never had any problems. I assume because they never ate any of it. But it is better not to take the risk I thinkR chickens really allergic to cedar?
I think chickens have sensitive respiratory systems, and it can irritate them. Not necessarily allergic. Not good for people either. But it doesn't rot. True story, we played football in the neighborhood when i was a teen and it was supposed to be tag football but the guys could get fresh. They lived to regret it. Fast learners they were.

Maybe you could line the coop with plywood or paint it to seal the pores in the wood?This is making me wonder about my Ameraucanas I mentioned that I have one that is sneezing. Well their whole coop is made out of my old fence. The wood they use to make fences is cedar. The fence was 10 years old.
