We hover around 0* at night. Don’t think we went into the negatives last night but they predicted to drop -3*. I have a large 10.5” brooder light with the cage. A red heat bulb. I thought about using a timer...
I’m not sure how warm it will get it there. Don’t want them to be too used to it. Just keep the chill from killing them.
You can also use 100 watt bulbs. That is what i had been using. But the cold now is brutal and not normal for us here.

Well, I am the odd man out here because I use a heat lamp. If they are out in the teens during the day, I am sure they are fine at night. Mine are a bunch of Tater heads and won’t go in the coop unless there is a light so they can see. I will work on that when it warms up a bit. There are people on here with strong opinions, but I say go with your gut feelings. I feel bad for some peoples chickens, but they are just another chicken to some.

So last night hubby comes home from yet another double shift and nervously mentions to me that he thinks he might be getting sick. I shriek, run to the other side of the room and start yelling "stay away from me I swear to god that if you get me sick right before Quals I will hunt you down and murder you!!!!"

I'm such a sweet wife :gig

Woke up with a raging headache and a fever this morning. I didn't have any energy and stayed listlessly on the couch until two this afternoon. I think the fever has broken now. On a side note, what are y'alls opinions on genetically modifying humans? I'm doing an essay on it for AP Bio, and was curious.
Ruby, I am so sorry you aren’t feeling well.

I am against genetically modifying humans.

Oh that is a can of worms! But it could be beneficial. Suppose you had a inherited disease in your family. Like hemophilia. If they could take out that gene, you could weed out the disease. But then in steps the government who wants to genetically engineer superior solders. Is that right?
