Misty, prayers for a complete recovery. It could have been as simple as someone coughing, sneezing, or touching something while they were sick, and he picked it up while he was getting his treatment. His immune system is shot, so it wouldn't take long for it to take hold, and the existing respiratory issues mean the lungs are extremely vulnerable. He will have to practice vigilance, good, frequent hand washing and use of hand sanitizer for quite a while, and preferably for the rest of his life. The rest of the family will need to as well. Keep several small containers of sanitizer with each of you, and several large ones around the house. Refill the small ones every morning, and check them before going anywhere. If you can find some small cans of Lysol to keep in the car and in your bag. For now you need to be a complete germophobe on his behalf, and he needs to maintain complete, or nearly complete germophobic sanitation practices. If he hasn't had them, he needs at least 2 different pneumonia vaccines as soon as his doctors will let him. Flu vaccines every year are also a must, again, provided the doctors say it's ok.

Im sorry if I'm beating a dead horse, I just want the two of you to spend as much quality time together as you can, and him being hospitalized doesn't equate as quality time. Hopefully he'll be home soon and feeling better even sooner.
Our house is caked in hand sanitizer. Unfortunately he's allergic to the flu shot, he had his pneumonia shot 2 months ago I thank you :hugs

This hospital is creeping me out. Ok the ER typical run of the mill. The moved us to our room, not bad. The head nurse wow she's pretty but not dressed in scrubs, long skirt, the shirt same, hair is like victorian style with curls. It's as if though she was going somewhere special.I said how nice she looked, she says my hair is long, so this is how I wear it. Ok more twilte zone, she is so friendly it's creepy. Don't get me wrong its awesome that a nurse is like this but her demeanor. Anyways finally my hubby is settled in,& wham. A big bang at our door. Our daughter asleep, she'll sleep through anything, hubby medicated. Me eyes bulging, I get up from my chair check nothing. I go to the nurses station no body. Eerily quiet I walk around no one. I go back to our room. All of a sudden there's the nice nurse, but she seems different, can't place it. I didn't say anything as to what happened. She offered me a food tray. I thought ok where was she getting this from. The caffiteria is closed, & the floor wasn't that big....I kid you not in seconds she was back with a food tray. She barely just left, no way impossible. I know there was nothing in the halls..I 'll keep you posted on more creep factor

hi guys. been quiet, had a pretty awful experience day before yesterday.

my sweet, happy, talky little mille fleur, "mini fleuf" died. she was one of my favorite chickens. i don't know what happened. she started out of nowhere having these seizures, couldn't walk, was open mouth breathing, panting, flapping her wings, flipping over.

i didn't know what to do. even though i'm a vet i don't have euthanasia solution any more (ddn't keep up my cds license, it's like 500 bucks a year), and didn't know if i could wring her neck. i was bawling my eyes out and called smuv. i knew i had to end her suffering , but needed someone to tell me it was ok and that I could do it.

except....it didn't work so well. i thought i knew how to do it (pull the head and twist). we had a chicken lab in vet school a million years ago and that's how the guy did it. it took me like 4 times. she would not die. it was the most horrible, heartbreaking thing i have ever had to do. i was screaming and crying and in hysterics. it was frigging awful.

i have euthanized many, many animals, including two of my own beloved dogs, and it was never like this. i feel like i have ptsd, i keep seeing it over and over in my mind's eye.

i googled a bunch of youtube videos after that but haven't found one that was decent, if anyone knows one that is good please point me in the right direction. i don't know that i can ever do that again. it probably would have been better had i just cut her head off. quicker and more painless.

next time i will go to the vet's and have them give an injection, for sure. i cannot go through that again.i know some people will be like "that's just a chicken, get over it, what kind of farm girl are you" but she was my little baby.

thank you so much for all the kind words and well wshes, and to my sweet smuvs for helping me through that. and smuvs, i'm sorry you had to go through that with your chicken.

you guys are the best people in the world, here.

XO,

cindi

Henny, have you tried putting the new bed on the couch and putting her in it? If she's a sound enough sleeper, you could probably scootch her in it, especially if she's asleep on a blanket.

No worries. The sofa belongs to the dogs. They don't make dog beds big enough for my big guys.

@MrsMistyReal  OK that whole hospital middle of the night crap is like horror movie material. I would be completely freaked.
Dear Lord let this man heal! So very sorry your hubs is back in the hospital. :hugs

@pitbullmomma :hugs
You do know we are always here for you. I have no idea what could cause her symptoms. What you went through was horrible.
I am a tatering chicken. Mine that go beyond my ability to fix get taken to the vet to euthanize. I dread the day I have to end ones suffering. :hugs

Currently, the adrenaline is finally leaving my body since the PIC is asleep and I can kind of get overwhelmed with the *feelings* and all. Feels like I strained a muscle or 2 in my arms and across my upper back. How hard DID I pull that tatering chicken?!?
It was rage. You'll be sore today I'll bet.
