Official Squatch Watchers

Good morning and good night.

Code and hot water are on, there's applesauce in the slow cooker, a quiche staying warm in the oven (yes, the oven is off), some bagels, cream cheese, English muffins, laughing cow cheeses, and some corn bread. Butter and various fruit spreads/jams, nutella, peanut butter and honey are all on the counter. I'll leave a container or for crumbs and othet leftovers that are chicken friendly, unless you'd just rather have the chickens out in the kitchen with you... all I ask is that you clean up behind them and put them back in their pens by the tv in the loving room, big hen in big pen, small hen in small pen. They do enjoy cuddles, and you'll get to see/hear Gurtrude's "I got a special yummy!!!!" dance. You'll also get to hear both of them tell you how happy they are.

I'll see y'all in a little while, enjoy, and let me know what I need to replenish on my next grocery run. :frow:love:hugs

We did something like that when we lived in El Paso, a low PVC pipe with plastic. Oh, and we're doing raised beds, so gotta find out how high our raised beds have to be to plant stuff like carrots. What do you use your radishes for? What kind?

Mine were made out of 2X12s treated. Would have preferred blocks but they were too expensive.

Soil in my beds is a mix of sand, sawdust, mushroom and chicken compost. You should be able to get manure from the Amish near you.

I would buy address labels to print out.

X2 I just ordered labels from onlinelabels.com for the cartons I got from eggbox.com. I use their online app to print the labels. What's cool is they will send you sample labels to play with.

Morning peeps!!! I'll be sure to slip Gertrude a special yummy. Quick question: Do the house chickens always have the diapers on, or just when they are running about?

About to start a week-long game of musical coops. I was trying to integrate the chicks using the portal method, but the grate kept getting knocked over by the wind, and then the big chickens(well, mostly Nicole, our barred rock) kept chasing them out of their coop and keeping them out. That's probably how Hufflepuff disappeared. So my plan is to keep 3/4 chickens in the two small chicken tractors and each day, move one of them to the other tractor, to make them highly confuseld and whack out their pecking order, and give the little chickens a chance to get familiar with the regular coop and feel at home their. I'm not worried about Dove; she pretty much ignores everyone.

Side note: I discovered last night how horrible chickens' night vision is. They were on the roost, and I decided to give them a few mealworms. My hand is still hurting from all the missed pecks.

Just a toasted English muffin with peanut butter for me. Not feeling to spiffy this am.

Love the birds! Happy dancing for tie bits of muffin is cute. Gurtrude is my new favorite bird.
:love

The storms here kept waking me with high winds. I will be heading back to bed. Hoping I am just tired.

I do have to head out for dog food etc this morning. Roads look to be mostly just wet.

Much love my squatchy friends.

Good morning! I woke up and hubs was gone, guess he went to work early and apparently he had been searching for "dog farts" on my phone....whatever man. @Smuvers Farm "aka pookie" the time draws near you have heard the peeping now you are dooomed! The derps here go on lockdown thursday so I am right behind you just waiting to go insane..again.:)

One last thing then headed to bed. Can anyone recommend a GOOD personalized stamp for egg cartons? I got one and it's useless unless it's on a flat surface....

I would buy address labels to print out.

Check Zazzle.com

My mom loves that site. She made me address labels with eggs on them. You can upload your pictures to make stuff too. My niece has a bag with a picture of my chickens on.

Not sure if they make stamps but they make just about everything else so it's worth a look.

Good morning everyone! Today is my first day off since last Monday. I'm so glad I can leave my work computer off today. The Milk Drinker slept pretty well, but didn't go to bed until after midnight last night and woke at 8 this morning.

We are now getting 30+ eggs a day! I knew we'd be swimming in eggs soon since we have 44 laying age hens/pullets, but the spring glut is already upon us. I've been looking into ways of preserving the eggs and stumbled on using lime water (water glassing) to preserve them into the winter months. We are also going to start selling eggs soon. I need to work on getting a permit and an egg refrigerator. We keep eggs for our own consumption in the pantry, unwashed. That doesn't work if we are going to sell them.

How are everyone's chicks & eggs doing? Cappy, How are your baby buns?

Loki was off the nest yesterday, so not sure if she was just mad b/c she was interrupted when she was laying and didn't get her sitting time after laying. For some reason a few of my girls like to rest on their egg for a little bit after they lay.
It was so nice yesterday that we went to the zoo & took my nephew & my daughter's friend along too. Of course tomorrow it's back to reality when the storm that Smuv referred to hits us. I cannot wait for our over night temps to be over freezing so I don't have to close the pop door anymore.
