Official Squatch Watchers

I check and I don't think you're in my family. I was SHOCKED that not a single person on the matched list of 1083 people have any of the surnames of my grandparents. It's very odd. My cousin is on there and through him I'm able to know that certain people are from my dad's side of the family. My aunt said she has a kit sitting at home so I'll be able to definitively say that the others are through my mom's family. Even more strange is that my results show I have .1% native american which my mom said my gma claimed she had native american ancestors. Since her father's parents were both from Italy that leaves her mom's side of the family. Of course since we only get 1/2 from each parent it's possible that my cousin just didn't get the native american part from his mom, or she from her father (her mom's parents were also both from italy). So basically it just raised more questions than it had answers too.

I see why things like that would be a secret, but it seems odd that the adults didn't consider that the kids knowing their parentage would be helpful. I'm sure it's a difficult subject, but to find out later that you'd been lied to you entire life about who you are would be hard for some.

Um.. ouch.

I made the gooey butter cakes using the Paula Deen recipe for a bake sale. I used a cookie sheet, not a baking pan and cut them in about 1 1/2" squares (some were a little bigger). I added all the ingredients then divided the price per square and then figured out how much it cost me to make, then rounded. I never count things that I already have like eggs and vanilla, unless I'm making a lot and use most of a bottle.
So based on this recipe: https://www.pauladeen.com/recipe/original-gooey-butter-cake/
I'd estimate it'd cost me about $6 to make. so if each tray made 30 bars it'd cost me $.20 per bar. I suggest putting 2-3 bars in a ziptop bag & sell it for $1. People are way more likely to pick up a couple $1 items than something that costs $5. I've also made whole cheesecake pies and typically start them at $10, then mark down throughout the day. It costs me $5 to make them so that's the lowest I'll go w/ marking them down. I only make 3-4 & they do sell eventually, but keeping them cold is an issue. Other things that seemed to sell fast were chocolate peanut butter bars, 7 layer bars, and chocolate dipped pretzel sticks.
Good luck! I hope you sell lots of stuff.
Now that you have your DNA profile, you can add it to other databases. There are some with a lot more people in it.

The problem is relatives not taking the test. My Fathers side of the family has more taking the test then my Mothers. The closes I get on 23&me is second cousins.

This is the one hiding in the back of the previous pic. Nice fluffy feathers, all hatched together.
Very different genetics in my pens obviously. I have more hatching today from only 2 pens, so I should be able to pull chicks and mark which pen they came from.

I'm on 23andme too! I should see if you guys are related to me. I didn't know you can do that.

I did it more for the health aspect of it I haven't connected with any "DNA relatives" yet. It's pretty cool. They just added the markers for breast cancer as one of the tests you can opt-in for (three variants of the BRCA gene). Fortunately, I was negative.

I like to participate in their studies and questionnaires because it helps advance science. :)

It's crazy because I know for a fact that my maternal grandfather was off the boat from Italy, so I am 25% Italian. Yet I think it said I was only something like 5% "Southern European" and didn't even identify me as any Italian per se. I'm pretty sure my nanny wasn't playing around, and my late brother was the spitting image of my grandfather Salvatore, so who knows! It has me down as mostly Ashkenazi Jew (which is kinda like a wandering Jew lol, you're not from any particular locale). Who knows how much of it is true, but it's still fun to do!

I'm trying to figure out how to do that. I'm already on familysearch.org and trying to figure out how any of that info will help me. Any suggestions of places to link my info into is appreciated! I have a first cousin on my dad's side who's done it and an aunt on my mom's side who had the kit. I have a sister-cousin (parent's siblings married) who wants to do it. I'm hoping more will consider it since I posted it on fb. My mom told my brother to do it, but IDK if he will. I have a friend who is very suspect of the whole thing.

Ooooo I'll send you a message w/ my real name and you can see if I'm on your list! I didn't do the health stuff. I know my gma's family has a bunch of cancer in it, almost every sibling of hers died of cancer and she had genetic lung cancer.
I agree w/ the studies. I'm part of the PATH study (google if interested) about tobacco. It's really interesting to me.
I have Italian on both sides.. what part of Italy, do you know? My ggpa is from Rivinsdole, Abruzza, Italy. My gma's dad's family was from Italy too, but IDK where.

GUYS!!! ABANDONED GOOSE EGG ALERT

We were doing gym outside(It's a beautiful day, btw) and somebody found a goose egg! It was frigid, and there was no goose or nest! Even if there was a goose, it's long gone. They didn;t know where the egg was found. I said I could incubate it, so I now hae a goose egg! Any tips on incubation??? I candled it. No development, and a very small air cell(in between the size of a silver doller/quarter)

Hi guys! Been quiet on here lately...sometimes get in moods where I don't have much to say. Been kinda in a funk missing my mom, not working much, having too much free time on my hands!

It'll pass. The weather's getting nice and that always puts me in a happier mood. I am so tuned in to the weather--definitely have SAD!--when it's grey and gloomy and rainy I get gloomy and depressed. Today is a beautiful springlike day, the birds are singing, it's sunny, and the air smells good!

I hope everyone's doing well. My little babies are growing so big (for seramas and BC) They are the sweetest things ever; my heart just melts when I hold them, or look at their little round eyes and heads. I am just in love with seramas, there is something about them!

I'll post pics when I get some good ones. It's hard bc they are always in motion!
Love you guys. TTYL! I'm gonna go outside and commune with my chooks, lol.
I always find that a project takes my mind off the weather. Stay busy. Gardening is good therapy! Hugs to you !:hugs
