Speaking of bunnies...
Remember my dingbat neighbor with the bunnies in the filthy hutches?
That I CLEANED AND RETROFITTED WITH HARDWARE CLOTH TO KEEP THE RATS OUT?:barnie

Well....
Guess what?
Surprise. Baby bunnies.

Now before I go any further I should tell you this woman is a nurse.
A LABOR AND DELIVERY NURSE no less.
So one would surmise that if she knows she has one of each gender living in SEPARATE hutches, they are SEPARATE for a reason.
She did NOT want babies.

She is telling her friends on Facebook that it is a “miracle”. :wee:ya

She came over to tell me about it and when I asked her how that happened she opened her eyes, REAL WIDE, like this emoji ,
And said “we don’t know! We let them play together so they don’t get lonely and they play ‘humpy’ sometimes,
But I swear I haven’t seen any LOOOOVE MAKING!”

:th:th:th:th

I said (name redacted just like on the news),
“You know that expression QUICK LIKE A BUNNY?”

She stared at me wide eyed like she was having trouble following.... -insert cricket sounds here.

I said , :old “I don’t think they MAKE LOVE, they just DO IT.
Real quick. Like BUNNIES.”

She made her mouth like an “O” and just let that sink in for a minute while her brain caught up, then said,

“Well I guess, in the future, we shouldn’t let them play together anymore then, right?”

It's actually the second time I've done that, the first time the car that hit the dog was 3 cars in front of me, and she died in my arms. I spent several hours trying to find her owner before taking the dog to a vet. I went back to where she was hit two days later and found the owner to let him know what happened. That time I lied when I told him she didn't know what happened, I wanted him to have peace and not knowing her last moments was the best way I knew. I keep the worst parts of those tragedies to myself, my burden to carry, because I don't want to tarnish the memories of those who live them. Those should be good memories. And now I'm:hit:hit:hit again.
Wish I could give you a REAL hug.

Stacey, bettas are pro escape artists. We've had them jump out of their tanks and found one on the electrical cord to the tank, and the other one we never found. African dwarf frogs are the same way.
I told her to expand her search and to look for something (24+ hrs out) much smaller and probably covered in dust fuzz and hair.
*we once found a goldfish all the way across a room ...

Yeah, so i get home late after being gone all day and evening and one of my 8 week old bunnies was dead! WTF?!
Super bummed. It had always been the smallest and skinny. 7 babies is a big litter. But if it was going to go, why now? Idk. Tomorrow all those babies are getting checked. They have been lively and eating well. Still in with their Ma. View attachment 1355503
I think this is the one that died. There were 2 the same color.
:hugs

Wha..... seriously?

Where's a facepalm emoji when you need one.

There are 3 boxes out there and a secluded area with shavings if they wanted. They generally use 2 of the nest boxes out of the 3. Sometimes they all want the top box then other days they all want the middle. My 8 eggs yesterday included 1 on the floor. I couldn’t believe how mean one of the Marans was to my OE. Pecking her in the head and standing on her. I kept telling her if she’d let OE lay her egg then the nest box would be available. She didn’t listen. LOL
I do the exact same thing. I swear chickens are just like siblings! The other day mine were ranging and Ziva was following around Abby, letting her look for goodies then when she'd see Zive pecking madly at the ground she'd run over to see what she found and eat it. I told my tiny human that they're just like her and sister.

I think I was reading loud and clear about people not wanting to follow/couldn't follow...whatever the baluts so I didn't bother mentioning the horse eggs here. I figured who ever wanted to know about the horse eggs would follow there.

I'm trying to stay caught up here but I'm not spending as much time online so it's been a challenge...especially with "my" threads...ya know.
I skip a lot, esp after the weekends so I figured I just missed something. Your balut thread was really interesting, but very fast moving. It would have been nice if I could have just seen your posts... not that other people's input can't be useful, but sometimes it's hard to wade through hundreds of messages at 10/ page. If you do get them to hatch, let us know, please. & I have no idea what horse eggs are, but good luck!

My stupid guineas refuse to use any kind of nest box. Maybe i will try putting one up off the ground. They just lay at random any where on the back area of the hoop coop floor, usually where it manages to get wet when it rains. It rained ALL frigging day today , every where i went all day and all night.
It's been raining the past few days here too. We got like 3 dry days in a row so now it thinks we need 32948 days of rain. I originally put mine up, and they laid in them, but then they decided they like the one bottom floor box. They keep kicking the straw out of the high boxes (not really that high, maybe 2" off the ground). I've seen where people use large cat carriers for nesting boxes, or covered litter boxes. But I've also read similar stories about people w/ guineas... they go out into the woods and find piles of eggs, or a bird will disappear and come back w/ 20 babies.

Miss you Kiki. I think with better weather everyone will be outside more so less byc time. I shopped SO much today i swear there was no room for anything in that car by the time i got home.
I noticed this last week. I used to come back after a weekend and have to skip a couple hundred posts and now there's been much fewer, but I attributed it to spring fever and everyone finally being able to work outside. I know I finally had a chance to put up some support in my run b/c we actually had a nice DRY weekend. It's nice to have people check in even if they're busy with real life.

That's so sad! I hope it wasn't something contagious.

I'm sorry Cappy, we've all been having losses, it seems like. I've been lucky that none of mine have died, but while I was out with DDs#3 & #4, we drove past a small brown animal that had been hit by a car. It was obvious that it had not survived, but it also had a small, blue collar. I turned around because I couldn't just drive by and leave it in the middle of the road. I wrapped him up on a plastic bag because it was all I had, and I took the collar off so we could call the owner. He wasn't even old enough to have his rabies tag, and I made sure to have the owners promise they wouldn't unwrap him, because he was not recognizable as their puppy, he was barely recognizable as a dog. All we could do is let them have him to put to rest, let them know that he didn't suffer and cry with them. I made sure DDs didn't see him, I hope his family didn't look at him, I don't want that to be the last thing they remember of him. :hit:hit:hit:hit
Oh wow. That was so nice of you.

Dear Anansi,
Thank you for doing that even though it was hard.
We had a cat slip out by accident (15 years ago).
I literally dreamed about him and drove around looking and calling for him for six months.
Knowing is better than not knowing.
You are very kind.
Hugs
Stacey
Ok, so this reminds me of a pretty funny story (pardon me if I've told it before)...
When I was a kid I had cat I called Stinker (I think my mom named him).. Every night he'd come to my window and I'd wake up and let him in and he'd sleep with me. Then one day he just disappeared. We live near a busy corner and we had cats disappear all the time, either people stole them, or they'd think they were strays and keep them. It wasn't a big deal as there's quite a few farms in the area (somewhat rural township).. One night I was in bed and heard a meow at the window. Looked out and it was Stinker. I opened the window and he came in. I was STUNNED. It'd been years. No idea where he'd been, but he was healthy and looked perfectly fine. Can't remember what exactly happened to him after that.

A story of horrible neighbors - once, as a teen I was outside checking on our chickens one night and the neighbor lady came over and told me she just hit my cat w/ a car. She shines my flashlight over to wear it is. She did it intentionally b/c the cat was trying to eat "her birds"... wild birds, as animals do. Anyway.. I tell my dad and he goes out. It wasn't our cat. It was a big orange stray cat that been hanging around & our cat was also big and orange, but very much alive still. She was a horrible lady & we were happy when they moved.

@CSAchook -my daughter (the grad school student) called me yesterday to say that she had
“An Amelia Earhart situation” going on.
Her beta fish had disappeared!
She has spent a total of 1 1/2 hours crawling around her bedroom looking for him but has not yet found his body.
It is a mystery.
Although there is the tiniest question of her psycho roommate ...

(Whom she is Not living with for the second year-starting in June...)
Well, that's..... fishy.
Sorry. I had to.

Wow. Maybe they shouldn't have bunnies. We had our male fixed. When we got them the lady had advertised them as all female, then right before we left she checked again and BunnBunn was a boy, but my daughter had already fell in love with him (NEVER take kids to select pets). Then we were told that until he was fixed to keep them at least 5 feet apart, further is better... b/c the anatomy of a male bunny is... how to put this... extendable? I'm guessing she expected it to be more like cats or dogs w/ the female going in to heat and it being rather obvious that they're mating, though the 'humpy' part would have been a clue to me. I hope she's able to find good homes for all the babies.

Did she check the floor really well? Sometimes fish just jump out.

I stepped on a live tropical fish in my bare feet once, in my bedroom. Not something you want to try.
