Official Squatch Watchers

I'm on Micardis for hypertension (thanks PIC!!! ya arse), and take my bp about 3 times a day. Please be very careful with that.... too easy to have heart issues or a stroke from hypertension.

I went 3 months with a migraine that was caused by hypertension and didn't know it....
I just bought a better arm cuff BP machine (and a kids cuff too) so I can keep an eye on things.

I take half of the lowest dose of Atenolol. It also helps with my essential tremors.

@apryl29 I freeze an empty cantaloupe half with the goop and other random goodies put back inside. I top it off with water and stir it around a bit to mix everything up. Most of the time they wait till it melts! I don’t think it hurts to peck the frozen stuff but it’s too much work for my lazy spoiled kids. I made yogurt smoothies for in the freezer too. The tops of strawberries with some blueberries in the blender with yogurt. Froze in an ice cube tray. They loved it.

Mine stand out in the rain ALLLLL the time. Look like a bunch of drown rats. They could care less.

My polish hens always look like something the cat dragged in. I am ashamed to take pictures of them. Their crests are always filthy!

I don't know how ice would affect their beaks, but if you freeze celery with just enough water to hold it together, you should be good. Celery has a very high water content and will help keep them hydrated. Just make sure you dice it up into roughly quarter inch cubes, then rinse it, put it in a bowl or other container while wet and immediately put it in the freezer and it should hold together. If not, add a little water and try again. You'll figure out how much water you need soon enough, and if there is a block of ice at the bottom, just put the whole thing out there with the ice side down and it should hopefully melt and create some nice, cold water for them to drink. If you put it in a small container of water or wading pool with a couple inches water (provided your chickens will go in it), it should work out well when there is s lot of ice at the bottom. Granted, a wading pool would habe to be emptied on a regular basis, since they like to poop everywhere, but on the hotter days, it might be worth it.

Rae, if your blood pressure is consistently in the upper 130s and/or upper 80s make an appt for a blood pressure check at your Dr.s office. Take the blood pressure machine with you so they can check it against theirs. Also keep a diary with the date, time, BP, the activities you were doing for 15 mins prior to taking your BP, your mood and angry stressors, such as not feeling good, etc. Also keep track of what you ate and drank prior to that reading. If you take it prior to breakfast, you don't put down what you are the day before, only if you had a midnight snack, but the next time you take it that day, put down what you ate between the previous reading and that one. It will help you see trends and then you'll know if something is causing your blood pressure to go up, or if it's going up independently of your normal habits, meaning worsening hypertension. Make sure to take the diary/log to every appt, that way if it's elevated at the appt, you can show them what it normally is, and they won't be so quick to put you on meds. As long as it's below 139/89 for your normal, you will probably not be put on medication for it. You may need to adjust caffeine and salt intake, reduce stress when possible, and get enough exercise, which is usually the first thing they want you to do before starting meds. Once diet adjustments, stress management and exercise no longer keep it below that range on average, then they may start using medications to help keep it in the safe range. What you don't want is uncontrolled hypertension, as that is inherently dangerous, but you also don't want to be on the medication if you can keep it under control with diet and exercise. Be cautious about natural remedies, and if you choose that route, go to a naturopath/osteopath, then make sure to sign a release of information so they can talk with your doctor and make the best choices to reduce possible adverse reactions, medication interaction problems and side effects. You may also want to go to a nutritionist if you want to get the most from dietary management. Above all, know that medication, if prescribed, isn't failure, just necessary if everything else isn't working. Some people do everything to the letter and it just doesn't work, it's not them, it's just the way their body works.

Hubby sold our tiller when we left TN to move to FL and help my parents. So its me, my shovel and rock hard clay. Its easier if you water it the night before. I add sand and composted manure.

Yup hard arse clay here. I am near completion in order to plant. Removing raspberries and weeds in the sun is rough work.

@apryl29 .
No bee problems from all the lilacs. I plant lots of things just so the bees will come. They like the stinky flowering pear trees and apple tree better than the lilacs.

I even keep a bee waterer filled so they have a good water source here.
:love

Oh and we are so dry here the ladies don't stink.
The droppings are dry before they even leave a new one.

Doggies on the other hand.

Lets just say I really like my lilacs.

Picking up dog leavings every time they make one means I am always picking up fresh messes.
