Official Squatch Watchers

Thanks for the hugs everyone. I appreciate it. The lady at the vet's office called her 'buff' colored, not quite orange. We've had tons of cats over the years. I agree that the orangey ones are super calm. The torties we had were pretty dumb. Calicos were friendly. We had a tabby once that HATED baths. He was my brother's cat and as soon as you got him in the tub he'd start peeing everywhere. I love watching the videos of people w/ show cats who wash and blow dry the cat and they don't care at all.

Good morning all. Terribly sorry to hear about all the loss happening.... unfortunately, we'll have to purposefully add to the loss, as we are in desperate NEED of reducing our roos by at least 2, preferably 3 or 4 though.... but only 1 or 2 the first time as it IS the *first* time for culling and processing..... hopefully this weekend... that will definitely make it memorable in more ways than one huh?

As you know Smuvers Micro Farm Family went on vacation to Cincinnati this past Thursday through Monday. We first went to the Newport Aquarium, where we got to pet and *hang out* with penguins.

We then spent time at the Fire Museum, and the Fireman's Memorial Park.

We had dinner, THREE TIMES!!!!, at a place called Sake Bomb Sushi. If you are near Cincinnati or the Cincinnati Airport, we HIGHLY recommend you go!

@Suzi18 joined us on our Saturday and Sunday outings to the Cincinnati Zoo and Elephant Walk Injera and Curry House for dinner. We had a very nice vacation before the start of PICs summer camp time.
Dying of jealousy about the penguins. The zoo near me has a thing where you can go have a private behind the scenes tour. I've always wanted to take my tiny human b/c she LOVES penguins. Was it as wonderful as I imagine it'd be?

Misty been drinking this morning. It's Wednesday
Shhhhh We can pretend it's Thursday.

We did a penguin encounter at the Columbia zoo in South Carolina when our kids were young.
Have to say it was an awesome experience.

Definitely put it on your bucket list. It’s worth every penny.

For a very long time, the DH said he was NOT going to help, no way, uh uh, fhaggetaboutit....... but he's pretty much on board now, since he had to cull the baby chick we had that was dying......

For the roos, we plan to skin and cut into pieces, and put directly into pots for soup and stock. I believe this should make it quite a bit quicker in processing, yes? Cause we aren't plucking nor keeping them whole, right?

I've never skinned a bird. I can't bring myself to throw away a usable product that holds so much good fat and flavor. I've considered cutting birds open from the breastbone to access the organs better. Evisceration is what takes me the most time, and the lungs and kidneys are hard to dislodge properly.

Honestly, if this is your first time doing any sort of butchery, start with one. If you have experience with hunting, you may be able to fudge on your first chickens and do more. I would err on the side of not taking too big of a bite off at once. It is better to think at the end of the day " That was easy, I could have done one more." than to not be able to finish and ruin perfectly good meat.
