Everybody survived the first roost night no blood,bald spots or missing eyeballs this morning. I do wish they would learn the ramp though i'm an awful elevator and cranky as a mofo that early. Hobo had shuffled her way next to the kids just sitting there softly growling at them which is fine considering she is capable of so much worse. Soft growling is her Mary Poppins mode.;)

For the roos, we plan to skin and cut into pieces, and put directly into pots for soup and stock. I believe this should make it quite a bit quicker in processing, yes? Cause we aren't plucking nor keeping them whole, right?

you're going to rest them for 24 hrs right? I know your making soup but any meat I didn't rest was like rubber bands, no matter how long I cooked, how small I chopped it or how low I cooked it.... some people say pressure cooking works though

I remember you having Cochins,right? Do you sell their fertilized eggs? I want some more good broody breeds and my cochin is awesome so just kinda floating the idea of buying some hatching eggs... figured I would start with you first. :D I'm not 100% sure I'm going to buy some just yet just want to kinda know where I can when I know... lol​
 
I remember Sam asking how to pack eggs for shipping, if that gives you a little more encouragement about getting some. You could also check TSC, I know they have straight runs on banty and others that ended up being cochin. That's where we got Lizbeth, and she's a sweet little banty cochin. There again, she has been handled and loved a lot since we got her at 2 or 3 days old. As far as broody, she's tried, but wasn't impossible to break. She's an indoor chicken, so that kinda makes a difference. However, she was trying to hatch a Fig Newton, it took almost 10 days to convince her hormones to calm down, and she had the hen version of a 2 yr old temper tantrum every day when I wouldn't let her back in her pen, plus I had to take all of her hay out so she couldn't get overly cozy. It was actually a lot of work to get her out of her broodiness, now that I think about it. Now I just make sure there's nothing in her pen that she can try to hatch.

Lizbeth and the fig newton is my all time favorite broody hen story. I have shared it with numerous friends and family members :oops:

Indoor?! My husband might draw the line there... and I dont think the kitty's would be ok with all that, or shall I say the chicken wont br ok with the kittys

I have a partridge bantams Cochin, I got her from TSC like 4+years ago? And I have lost count of her hatches.. o just let her hatch them out and put what eggs I want her to hatch. She is my little lady she is so sweet and I can move her wash her, handle her eggs, her babies... she trust me 100% on everything. 1 of the Best chickens I have even had!
