Lol. There's no way to break in our place without alerting some noisy animal. Plus our house looks like a drug house reject. If anyone did try to break in, they'd probably try to sue us for injuries sustained due to the builder not using treated wood on the front deck along the bedroom windows and then not waterproofing it. Add to that the fact that there is no way to get in through the rest of the windows without a ladder, and that you would have to maneuver around the stuff under the windows...Our place is too much trouble to be worth it. I like it that way, and if I could put a fresh coat of paint on it without making it look freshly painted, I would. In fact, I'd love to fix it up without making it look fixed up on the outside. I wouldn't mind the inside looking better, but if the outside could keep is current look, yet have a new porch and deck, and a new coat of paint...

Can you get an all flock feed? That is usually 18% protein.
It wont have the calcium that your young birds don't need so is a good option.

Can you give Nicole wetted feed with a scrambled egg or some tuna mixed in?
Since she hadn't been eating that extra wont hurt her.
Mine get that regularly and actually prefer wetted feed to their scratch. It should get her eating.

How's she doing after the fly strike by the way?
I'll try the wetted feed, though I think we are going to cull her today when I get back from my test. I'm pretty sure she has ascites, and there is no cure. No maggots in sight, and the wound is dry-but she keeps getting her diarrhea all over it.

I’m sorry Ruby. :hugs

Good luck on your test!
Is this you learners permit test???

We have the rhubarb fenced off, so they shouldn't be eating it, but the leaves have looked raggedy, so I wonder if they have been flying in. I've been wing clipping like crazy, but they are very flighty.

Nicole isn't eating well. After further research, I'm almost positive she has ascitites. I may have started the other chickens on that path, too. We need better ventilation in the coop, so that may have triggered it, having many more chickens producing ammonia.

Dove is eating well. They are eating grower feed with free choice oyster shell, but I'll be switching back to layer because of protein buildup worries. I have two 12 week old birds. Will they be ok with the layer, or should I separate them and give them grower?
They say you have to get around 32% to have a negative effect on chickens
I feed chicken grower (20%) to every one year around.. I usually get better hatches..I think the heat is causing issues this year..
right now there are poults in 3 of the 4 coops.. so those coops are getting 28% turkey starter..
The only thing I have noticed when feeding turkey grower(24%) is the birds get bigger feathers, looks like upside down feathers in the wings.

@CapricornFarm

Good morning Cappy!

ARE YOU KEEP TRACK?
If someone hooked me up to a polygraph machine and asked “how many babies
IN TOTAL has Cappy hatched?”
:confused::confused::confused::confused:

I’d say between 150-1000?

My sister lives on a little island.
They pride themselves off of living off the water.
They’ve had a chalkboard hanging in their kitchen on which they’ve kept track of every bushel of crabs they’ve steamed in their 50 year marriage.

I hope you’re keep a tally!

Well, DD#3 has expressed her disappointment with the plans to rehang the door. She says "I think it's perfect. If someone tries to break in to our house, they'll get confused by door knobs one both edges of the door frame. They wouldn't be able to steal anything big, and we can whack the Mormons in the face accidentally. Lol." Yes, I know the last one is kinda rude, but it would also work for all solicitors. Of course a lockable slot for pizza delivery would be appreciated by that same child.
Im loving her observations and views on the door in its current state.
I think you should just “set” on it for a few days and not rush into flipping it around.
