do the birds try to eat exposed spray insulation.. like they do the white styrofoam?
Yes. If they can reach it they will test it out. I think its the texture that gets them revved up to keep eating the stuff.
With the window insulation in the gaps covering it with the hardware cloth while covering the windows stops them.
Jealous. How do you make it? Just toss some peaches in a pot and simmer the heck out of it forever? I've made apple butter before, but not peach butter. Our local orchard has peaches, but I haven't made it out there yet.
I always stuck the other side in a cup b/c I didn't want to waste what leaked out, or I pumped while the kid was eating. Everyone was all like Why are you doing that? Just give her a bottle. How do you know she's getting enough? Sigh.. It's MY kid, I'll feed her how I like. And the name thing.. right there w/ you! Everyone hated my kids' names. My mom still says my older one's name wrong. They asked why I didn't give them "Normal" names. Everyone spells their names wrong. It doesn't help that my ex insisted on changing the spelling. It's been long enough that they should have them down by now. (I also hate my name.. Why shouldn't I be given the opportunity to give my kids names they'll hate too?)
The peach butter is easier than apple butter. I blanch, peel, pit and drop in the big pot. I take a potato masher and smush them some then simmer on low about 30 minutes. I take a hand blender and turn it all to a slurry. After another 30 minutes in the pot I measure out 6 cups into another big pot and bring to a boil on medium. Adding sugar and cooking another 15 minutes 2 cups of sugar was plenty this year.
I get my jars and water bath canner ready during the cooking time.
Once its cooked the full time I add 2oz pectin and stir like crazy while cooking for one minute more. Then its just filling the jars and doing a 10 minute water bath.
Mine did not thicken like jam likely because I cut the sugar to less than half of the 4&1/2 cups it called for. It makes 3 pints which is disappointing. I ran out of pectin so when I make more I will double the batch size. It doesn't foam up so my same pots should be fine.
It can be done without pectin but would need to be cooked down to the thickness desired.
Don't forget to stir everything often.

I have 8 cups of peach puree in the fridge for the next batch.
Oh and 1tsp of fruit fresh per every cup of peach puree helps it keep its beautiful sunny color.
