Just found another quail with its head pecked open! The other quail clearly did it. I mean it looks to me like they busted his skull! What barbarians! I did cut a plastic pot in half to give them more hiding places. I will be glad to get them sold!:sick
:eek::eek::eek:
Hey Cappy, leave the quail to deal with that raccoon!

Ok lesson learned. I will never shovel out the entire burn cage and put the ashes out for the girls, I will stick to my usual 1/4 of them. Why? Because every chicken out there rolling in a big ash pile make a huuuuge dust cloud that just might make a person think the tatering woods are on fire and freak the absolute tater out! I shoveled a week ago at least and i'm guessing they just found it.:barnie

Lafayette update: :D

He was *strutting* today. Like a rooster. His stance is so, so much better (not quite a V shape yet, but definitely a U!)

He hardly fell over at all while walking today; he actually ran a little!

His comb continues to get more straight.

He is eating well on his own and his crop is nice and full often, which it wasn't before. I finally stopped hand-feeding him today.

His weight today was almost 3# (2.8). Up from 2.2 when I could feel his razor-sharp keel and every rib (probably he was about 5 pounds before he got sick).

He is pecking the others away from his mealworms and actually *was jumping* a bit for his mealworms!

He is navigating stairs better! Doing the concrete ones from my deck with no problem, and not falling once he gets to the bottom. I am still picking him up at night to put him in the coop, but last night I put him two steps on the ladder from the top and gave his butt a little push and he walked those two steps up into it.

I am very, very happy, and believe he is going to make a full recovery. Yay!:wee

Oh yeah...and he is making these sweet little noises when he is happy. Not like a hen, but like a cooing mourning dove kind of. And when he wants mealworms he makes it louder and more insistently! I miss his crow, but I think soon he will be crowing.

He lets me hold and nuzzle him, and runs up to me when I come to the run now. I think he loves me. :love His feathers are getting glossy and beautiful again. I let him free range on my lawn and he ate a ton of grass today

I love that rooster,and I am so glad.:love :love :love

I have to tell you guys about the Dr. Pimple Popper style surgery I did on him yesterday!! It was so gross, but so cool.
