Lafayette update: :D

He was *strutting* today. Like a rooster. His stance is so, so much better (not quite a V shape yet, but definitely a U!)

He hardly fell over at all while walking today; he actually ran a little!

His comb continues to get more straight.

He is eating well on his own and his crop is nice and full often, which it wasn't before. I finally stopped hand-feeding him today.

His weight today was almost 3# (2.8). Up from 2.2 when I could feel his razor-sharp keel and every rib (probably he was about 5 pounds before he got sick).

He is pecking the others away from his mealworms and actually *was jumping* a bit for his mealworms!

He is navigating stairs better! Doing the concrete ones from my deck with no problem, and not falling once he gets to the bottom. I am still picking him up at night to put him in the coop, but last night I put him two steps on the ladder from the top and gave his butt a little push and he walked those two steps up into it.

I am very, very happy, and believe he is going to make a full recovery. Yay!:wee
Awww :hugsthis is such awesome news! :wee

Thanks sis! :hugs I really did think I was gonna lose him. It is really great to see that he turned the corner and is gonna make it!

I dewormed the bigs again yesterday, will deworm the littles again tomorrow, am on day 5 of Corid in everyone's water, and poops are all looking good. No more sick chickens. It sucks not using the eggs, I will prolly have to break down and buy yukky store eggs for awhile, which I have not done in over a year!

Oh hell I eat the eggs! I worm with Valbazene and found out its main ingredient is given to people when they have worms.
I once did the math and if the entire dose I gave a hen went into a single egg, I'd have to eat a dozen eggs at once to even get my dose.

@pitbullmomma Did you get video Dr Pimple Popper style? LOL
I'm so glad he's on the mend and feeling better.

@Chickassan I have great video of 2 of my girls who are dust bath masters. There is cloud of dust around them as they floof their feathers.

Nah, I have a crappy flip phone. (but it serves its purpose!) The photos it takes are really bad, and the videos are even worse!

Basically, he had these two cystic-looking things on the back of his neck, one pea sized, the other a little bigger, and lumpy. I lanced em, and what came out was kinda like a cross between a botfly, inspissated gross goo, and some immature feathery stuff that reminded me of the teratoma twin in Stephen King's The Dark Half. :sick Like I said, gross yet cool as hell....

Yanno, I did a ton of research and came up with a 15 day withholding period that makes me feel a *little* better.

Yeah, I'd be a liar if I said I didn't eat one or two of those medicated big green Maya eggs. Just cuz....they are so yummy and green. I have been feeding some of the eggs back to the rest. Lafayette is actually sick of eggs by now (@rjohns39 , you'll be happy to know that I've been giving him canned salmon!)

I figure, most of em are gonna be going into molt soon (lots of pointy little pinfeathers popping up on their heads) so it can't hurt. :)

Yes!

The reason most things say two weeks with draw is because they are not approved for chickens. It takes a lot of work to get a medicine approved so many companies skip that for chickens. 14 days is just a standard number and does not mean a thing.

You can eat the eggs during worming

I know...it was hard finding any scientific data.

I actually read a couple of research reports from JAVMA, stuff from FARAD, USDA/APHIS....I was on a real search, I spent like half a day looking for info.

I'm just gonna be on the safe side. I've already been pulling the eggs for ten days, it's just another two weeks.

Truth be told, I am really curious to see what a store egg tastes like; it's been so long since I've had one. I bet they taste really limp and anemic, ya know?:lau

@FlyingNunFarm Nunny, I'm long overdue to tell ya (cuz I've been off the boards nursing Lafayette) but I am so thrilled that you finally got your house!!! Having a new house is the best, most exciting thing ever!! Congrats to you my friend!:wee

yes, that is what the 14 days number is for, the safe side.

Those that are allergic to worm medicine need to not eat the eggs. They also would not be able to take the same medicine if they had worms.

I will eat them during treatment but will not sell them or give them away.

It you have to buy eggs, the trader joes fertile eggs are about the best you can buy. They do not sell them in all markets though
