That is a problem with the NYD Hatch! Getting eggs in the cold of winter to hatch is a real challenge

Mine start in the garage. I do not like having them in the house either!

If I had a garage.... My parents who live next door have a garage but I think my dad would get really annoyed with the chick dander.

I'm thinking about adding a 2x10 brooding lean-too onto the side of my stationary coop.
 
Ooo good idea. I had straw in there that had been pulled outside by the birds over winter and throughout the spring and it was NASTY. I raked it out into the yard and it actually killed the grass and there's still a bare spot. It smelled like death and poop. It was layers of mud and poop and mold. I'm going to try the sand. Thanks!!

Last year when we had rain and snow over and over I did the straw thing and regretted it as it turned into a slick, stanky mat of awfulness. I had to cut it into chunks to get it out and it was alive underneath....gag! The smell was not nice at all and this was like in Febuary so heat hadn't even worked on it yet.:sick

Well, I guess my little hens have decided they aren't little. They are running with the big chickens, which i'm happy about not sure the molty bigs are too thrilled though. Negan is really happy, he's finally got at least one chick to snuggle into his underfluff he's been trying to make that happen since I let them loose.:)

Make it wider than that, you will be glad in the long run.
