So, something funny happened this afternoon. DH asked me if the 3 guineas at the end of the pasture were trying to get into the run, or out of it. Sure enough, 3 of the Lavenders (who are REALLY DUMB birds) were practically killing themselves trying to get back into the chicken yard. What usually happens is something startles them and they fly over the fence in panic, but don't think to fly back over. SO FIL and I went out to get them back. When I was walking up, I noticed that one of my Bantam Cochin/Chocolate Orp Splash cockerels was in the main pen trying to get back into the bachelor run.

He is the Beta rooster in the bachelors. He is a really pretty dude, but he has lots of attitude. He knows better than to challenge the Alpha in his paddock (my New Hampshire) but he used to fight all the Standard Blue/Black cockerels that were a month younger than him into submission. Today, he decided to challenge Molasses, my avatar. HE is 12 lbs of big, heavy bird. I would be surprised if this banty was 2 lbs. He got away with a bloody comb and a lesson. Molasses didn't have a scratch on him. One reason I like Molasses, is he will stand his ground, but he doesn't fight to the death. He fights until the other side learns a lesson. The Banty was pacing the fence trying to get back in the bachelor pen, while Molasses was pacing back and forth about 5 yards away making sure he was still in his place. I put him back where he belongs and he went to the far side of the paddock, as far away from Molasses as he could get.
As for the stupid guineas, I had my FIL holding a section of fence open so I could chase the guineas in without letting any chickens out. Well, as I chased them around the corner, they miraculously discovered their flight abilities and flew over the fence before getting to the open section. Dumb birds. Some people complain about not getting guineas to stay with their chickens. Mine have seemingly bonded to them.
I was lurking here till about 1:30 a.m. Reading about slipped tendon and what to try and do about it.
Poor Gladys is the worst patient and keeps throwing herself out of her sling. I finally have up last night and removed it.
Heard from the other Sis in law......
SIL #1 has been pestering her for plane fare to just bop on up here!!!! She thought we might want to know BEFORE that door knock.
Hubby seems to have shut that mess down.
It would have put her here with no job, no car, no furniture etc etc etc at the start of winter!

Miserable this morning. I think I caught something and the Milk Drinker may have too. He did not want to go to bed last night and I felt so sick. I'm really hoping this queasiness is due mostly to post nasal drip and not morning sickness. It was quite bad last night. How are you feeling Rae?
My hubby almost never sleeps in. Many days he is awake by 5 am. But he does go to bed by 10 pm.Happy Saturday friends.
I’m up. I’m just trying to keep Cooper quiet so hubs can sleep in.
Hope you get better soon. I never had much morning sickness. If i felt queasy i would burp until i felt better. I never threw up, though i was pregnant 4x.Miserable this morning. I'm glad someone else thought the same thing.Wait, WHAT???!!!
I have like a million posts to catch up on (I am addicted to the chick-with-a-foot-growing-out-of-its-head story. It is like BYC reality TV, OMG.)
And then I saw this post.
And clicked on the link.
Please tell me I did not just see a research article with the words "FISHY TAINT" in the title!!!!!![]()

I am literally dying here. If this is the last post from me you ever see, this is why....
Story?I did!For reals. It happens....
So glad they are giving it a chance, but honestly it freaks me out a bit. It's so weird. But I would let it live as long as it seemed ok.Yeah, he's totally missing the irony in his choices. But i'm not wasting any more time talking to a wall. And yeah a couple people seem dead pissed that foot head isn't getting culled. You know though there's always a couple butts in the bunch that just refuse to enjoy anything.![]()
Great job!
I did the same thing, cut out window holes and popped or after it was completed. It's Ohio so as long as you have ventilation some other way not having the window right now shouldn't be that big of a deal. Especially with it getting down to the 30s at night. It's going to be that odd day where it's 80 degrees for no reason that might be an issue but as long as you keep an eye on it you should be fine.View attachment 1559129 View attachment 1559130
Door opening. Have to get the door to the coop. But got walls up on both sides so we can just cut the opening out. Same with the windows. I think in going to wait till spring and install them sideways. I'm beyond annoyed with myself for not paying attention to which direction the windows went.
My pop door is on the floor. There's a two by four that's the frame for the wall that I left, but the door starts there. I have a ramp that goes down outside. It's actually just the piece of wood that I cut out with a couple of small strips of wood for traction. I put it on hinges. I used rope and pulley is in another piece of wood to make a door that I can open and close from the inside.I forgot to ask about pop door placement....
Old coop was raised off the ground maybe 2 ft. So pop door was at floor level of coop with ramp to ground.
New coop is at ground level. So how high do I want the door off the ground? Do I want the door off the ground? (Once white stuff covers the ground my kids refuse to go out)
Is it possible to use athletic tape to hold her tendon in place? I'm not 100% what it's called but they used it to take my daughter's needs help keep her kneecap in place. It's tape but it doesn't stay sticky after you peel it off.I was lurking here till about 1:30 a.m. Reading about slipped tendon and what to try and do about it.
