Official Squatch Watchers

I don't think curved feathers are much of an indicator for roo, as Lizbeth has curved feathers. It's more feather shape, are they rounded or more pointed. If more are rounded then it's normally a hen, roos have more of a pointed shape, though there may be some rounding. That's why I said compare Pat's tail feathers to your existing roos and hens. Also, looking up pics of the breed online will give you some additional visuals to match her up to.

The Pat guessing game is all in fun. But the pictures below are from the breeder. Male then female.

With these in mind-- Pat's a girl.

To clarify your vote is girl? LOL

When she lays an egg I'll have to take a pill for some really dainty girly name.
Buttercup. Or maybe Daisy. :lau
Yes, a pullet. You should see pictures of English SOP Orpington pullets. The feathers are quite messy

Thanks! I'll try to check out her butt some time soon. She's not very friendly at all. The other day I was trying to protect her from the meanies on the roost & I tried to pet her and she kept pecking me. I'm hoping she gets nicer after she starts laying. She was hatched around June 9th, so about 4 months now. The Lav girl isn't friendly either, but they weren't handled all that much when they were little. It's not like many of our others are super friendly either though.

I thought cranberries were bog fruit. Are the trying to circumvent child labor laws by having field trip kids pick their fruit?

Seriously, mine were so standoffish until awhile after they started laying. Then they started getting sweet. Now they are both like lap chickens. They have way exceeded my expectations of ACs because, frankly, everything you read about them is kinda off-putting. Like, they are not cold hardy, they are not really friendly, they lay like 80 eggs a year....

I love my ACs. And my roo, he was awesome. I fell in love with the breed like I did with pit bulls and Seramas, cause in my experience, they are awesome.

Hahaha on the cranberries! It was for the HS enviro sciences class, and all those trips I love going on cuz they are fun *and* I learn a ton of stuff. The kids really enjoyed it. :) And of course I was thrilled, cuz everything in my life revolves around my chickens, and I got a big bag of cranberries, and then came home and gave some to the chickens....and they love crnberries.

Eventhe babies got cranberries and it was hilarious watching them stealing them and playing Keep Away!! :D So cute!
