Your CL boys comb is big too. Mine is ridiculous. I actually hope it gets frostbite, otherwise I may have to trim it.

It is enormous! And really twisted so it didn't stand up vertical even when it was half this size. I am almost positive he is going to get frostbite this winter
The feral chickens around here used to get it and they slept in a tree so I am quite certain it wasn't a ventilation issue. Hopefully winter isn't too painful for him

Does it seem like the big comb is causing your guy any problems so far?

Thanks Ron! I really hope that is all it is. I am going to try to get a closer inspection of Roux this evening.

I agree with Ron, but then again I don’t have any experience with pox. I had one rooster that I suspected it on a few years ago but it cleared up without any treatment.
Mites can also cause scabs like that, so something else to consider too.

My seramas get frostbite, but they insist on sleeping outside. losing the tips never seems to bother them at all.
My CL shakes his head a lot, like that stupid strand of hair that always falls in your eyes? It looks even bigger than your guys though. I don’t guess it bothers him as far as seeing or eating. Yet.

Not yet, but we have not had our first freeze ...

Both, and even on the perches. I look under the wings and part the feathers to see the skin.

Mites live in both but feed on chicken. I would be happy to work something out to get you some Elector PSP. Best stuff ever.

I've used the human version of vet wrap. (Way cheaper) She pulls at it till it comes lose. Right now I've been trying to get her leg healed. I found a piece of foam I think I'm going to try my hand at the brace I saw. It's basically a butt cushion around the legs. I of course can't find the picture right now.

In addition to what Cap and Nunny said, get a white sheet of paper and scrape some of the scab onto the paper. Smash the scrapings, and smear them. Look for blood in the smears.

Anyone of you Squatchers ever dealt with dry fowl pox before? Concerned I might have an outbreak in my flock
I understand there is really no cure, but do any of you do anything in the way of supportive care? I am afraid it is too late to prevent it spreading. I was too slow on the uptake. There have been so many pecking order skirmishes lately that I didn't realize right away that I might be seeing sores rather than pecks

I’ve been following on a few threads, and saw a few of the educators say that “it’s that time of year again”.
So it’s likely. Be in the lookout for the wet version which makes them feel so poorly and can be more serious.
