We don't do trick or treat around here as we're too rural... My street is a mile long and has 5 houses on it. All but two have a quarter mile driveways. So instead we do Trunk or Treat. Local churches, walmart and other places have a designated time to arrive and a section of the parking lot marked off. Cars all get parked and then the kids go car to car to get their treats. Ours was a either Saturday or Sunday. The kids had a blast.

You “do whatcha gotta do” when it come to your chickens I suppose. :lau
Seriously tho.
love those traps.

They are also LOUD when they get sprung.

...hear them from the house loud.

...turn down the burner while you’re making dinner and go check loud.

As in, “Honey! Did ya hear that? Watch the stove! I think I caught a rat!” loud...

My most naked chicken ever was a leghorn. She was seriously ready for the pot naked.

This year my worst has been a naked bum. Most of mine are already back to laying.

I got 17 eggs yesterday out of the 21 hen coop.
Just one from my freeloader cochin coop.
Jealous. I'm getting about 3-4 eggs from 11 girls + 2 pullets that aren't laying yet. Then there's those 2 HUGE boys who needs to go.

My poor OE.

She was not happy for me to look her over. She hollered quite loudly and repeatedly. This is by far the worst molt I've seen in person.
And feathers still were falling off.
Oh, that poor girl. :( Don't you just want to cuddle them? You should submit her in the molting thread.

Last winter/spring, When I was dealing with the famous filthy rabbit cages next door, I held my head up high and bought EIGHT of those big plastic rat traps at the store.
Not the ones that are all plastic like a toy, the kind where the strike bar is metal.
I got so disgusted with the rats flipping them over!
So I screwed some of them end to end on a 2x4 the width of the door to the run and the rest on a square board that I put under where the feeder hangs in the daytime.
It made setting them very easy.
Caught a bunch of those suckers. Mostly male. 1 big daddy and a bunch of juveniles. And 1 adult female about a week later.
The ones I got are big and plastic, I triggered one just to see how strong it was and it's enough to snap a spine.. IF the damn things would step on it. Someone keeps tripping my old fashioned trap. My dad said to put the peanut butter UNDER the metal thingy so I did, and they STILL set it off, at the peanut butter and left. These things need to die. I love your idea! I'm going to try it out. I wonder if I could make a big square around the hole so no matter where they go there's a trap. Of course they could just dig a new exit, but my current set up w/ a trap by the hole isn't working well.

I'll try to get a picture of my skunk herd. I do not want to spook them but I bet iv'e got upward of ten to fifteen skunks.
Do your neighbors have the skunk issue too? Find out what they're doing to drive them over to your place.

Idk why my chickens don't get naked when they moult.
B/c their mama raised them right.

My pair of Tolbunts i bought at Glen Allen this year.
So pretty! They look like they're all dressed up for a fancy party.

Thanks, but I don’t like browser bookmarks. I meant within BYC. But they fixed it today!! We can finally bookmark from mobile!! :wee

The one trying to explain Japanese to you? :lau
Well handled, my friend. Well handled. :)
I didn't know that was possible. Good to know! Personally, I like pinterest for saving stuff b/c I use multiple devices, but when I tried to pin it weird things happened.

Today we got the cage for the California Valley Quail into the barn. As soon as the paint dries on the plywood for the roof, i can put it on and they can move in!
Is this winter housing, or where they'll live forever?
How are you feeling? Did the swelling all go away? I hope you're feeling better.

We're the scary looking drug house, nobody will bother us, especially with the front light off.
Um.. is this a confession? Like that one comedian.. Secret Time!

Nope banned from Costco but i'm a Sam's club member.:)
Rene trips me out, she's just a mini hen.:pView attachment 1576420 View attachment 1576421
She's so fluffy! What's a mini hen. I assume it's not the same as a bantam.. Is it like a dorking?

She’s very pretty.
I was asking because I was thinking just how big of a pepper shaker you’d have to have to deal with all those skunks! :lau
Some bigger stores, like walmart, have big containers of ground pepper. https://www.walmart.com/ip/McCormick-Pure-Ground-Black-Pepper-16-oz/51691163
But if you need A LOT RJ's 15 lbs would probably be much cheaper. Wear a mask or scarf if you aren't already... don't need a case of pepper lung. A seed spreader might help distribution too.

Big, big, big! Was just think about getting bulk pepper today! You must be reading my mind. I know you want to know...i'm banned from Costco because I dumped out buggy cereal on the service desk, a whole lot of buggy cereal. I'm no longer welcome.:gig
I did want to know! I love your stories.. well, everyone's stories.

My other molter. She is GRUMPY!
View attachment 1576438
She looks like you'd lose a finger if you tried to touch her. Molting is so sad. I imagine it feels like being horribly sick b/c it's so draining.

I don't know how rabid they are. I walked through the mob a little earlier to get the carpet shampooer. Not one single F was given. I moved super slow though, like snails were laughing at me slow.;)
You are the bravest person I've ever known.

Ok so I have a complaint about Trunk or Treat. We spend our lives as parents telling kids Stay away from stranger's cars. If a stranger says they have candy in their car, run away! Stay away from anyone offering free candy from a car. THEN we take our kids to a parking lot filled with strangers. Then tell them to go up to each vehicle and get free candy from the strangers. I get the idea behind it, but it's really horrible when you think about it.

Really warm here today too but expecting an all day rain. Yuck
I thought it was oddly warm this morning too. Makes me kinda nervous b/c you know it isn't going to last.

I get oddly excited going to check my traps at night. I keep hoping to have killed something, but then they're empty, or worse, triggered.

We got our competition schedule for next year. The kids are excited, we're going to Kalahari, which is an indoor water park for one of the events. It's in Sandusky which is only 1 1/2 hrs from here, but we'll probably stay Sat night in to Sunday so the kids can swim. Then Nationals are in Pigeon Forge, TN. We're def staying in a hotel this time.
