Official Squatch Watchers

One last thing before I go to bed.

@Redhead Rae , I don’t know how to do the spoiler thingy so skip this post. Please.
Just move along.
It’s gonna be gross.

At today’s visit to Walmart -where I don’t personally purchase meat, they had these “chickens paws” again.
Seriously. If they call them that, which is disgusting enough all by itself, I would assume that this meat product MUST come in from some other country.........

BUT NO!

The label clearly states that they are HATCHED, RAISED, and HARVESTED in the USA
and
That they’ve been inspected by the USDA for “wholesomeness”,
Yet ,
30% of these chicken feet are clearly infected!

Wouldn’t a USDA inspector know what BUMBLE FOOT looks like, and that it’s a STAPH infection!?!?

And HOW can that possibly be safe for people to eat?

That....is....NASTY! I've heard from several farmers on a Permaculture FB group I'm in that half the USDA meat inspectors know next to nothing about animals, just about the butchering process.

Don't worry about me. The reason I can't think about butchering now is more because of the smells than the sights. Heck, I still watch pimple popping and ingrown toenail removal videos.

Those chicken paws are disgusting. :sick:sick:sick

So....
Tilly in the crate resulted in extremely loud and high pitched crying. Ten minutes in and she was boosted to the bed where she snuggled up to hubby and slept. At 1am hubby took her potty then back to bed. At 2 am he put her on the blanket next to the bed where she stayed til 5 am.

Oh yeah she's gonna be spoiled. :D

I am glad she and hubby are going to be besties.

She found and likes the tennis ball and the squeaky duck.
:love

It got cold last night. We had our upstairs gas heater on medium, which is usually enough to keep the temps inside in the low 70s. It was in the mid-teens last night and our bedroom go down to 65. My hands are still half frozen.
Rae, it's 16* here now and I'm way south of you. Thinking about firing up the wood stove.:th

Good morning. Very cold crisp morning here. I broke dow. And put a cozy coop heater in my Serama coop. My bantam Wyandotte and my Silky also share the coop with them. My rule is........I only turn it on when the nights get below 28. Don't know why I picked that number.

That bumblefoot "paw" is beyond disgusting. I think I would have enlightened the butcher.

Still waiting for pics of Tilly. :caf

Pretty bad when 37* is exciting. :lau I know exactly how you feel though. I check the wind speed now too. LOL It’s like I try to calculate if I should open the door and for how long. Most of the time I don’t bother. They won’t go out in it. And yes the new coop is quickly filling with poop! I thought it seemed like a lot but hearing everyone’s chickens have turned into poop machines I feel better.
Right? I did see 40's on the tv, but that's for cle and they're different than here... but it's always wrong anyway. I'm just happy that I'll have a couple nights where I can leave the back pop door open so they can get out in the back area.. but it depends on how windy it is. Why do we live here?

We had about 2 feet of snow! Hubby has been out there killing himself shoveling it. Our driveway is about 350-400 feet long, and he shoveled a path to Turkey Town and another up to the barn.
Holy wow. Did it finally stop? Hopefully it doesn't melt all at once.

The three hold outs are just seeing their first snow. They are being slightly dramatic about it. You know how chickens are about new stuff.:)
Aww sounds like they feel the same about snow as I do. Last night I let mine out for a bit so I could scoop their poop & everyone ran out, then ran right back in. The 2 survivors are always out there, but everyone else runs back in after a few minutes... even the 'babies'.

I have a buff who resumed laying about three weeks ago. Been getting an egg consistently every other day. She was the only one who didn’t seem to get hit by a molt.

I went outside to check on them yesterday morning.
38 degrees. Pouring rain.
Hard wind.
Haven’t seen an egg since Wednesday.
I got close to the run and thought “oh lord! Something got in and killed my buffs!”

Golden feathers EVERYWHERE!

I unlocked the door to the run as they started filing out the pop door and down the ramp so I quickly saw that all were accounted for.

I picked up Corrine since she was first one down the ramp( always is) and turned her over to discover that she’s a porcupine!

Wow. She really missed the boat. All the others are finished and just filling out their longest tail feathers now.

She’s gonna be cold.
I noticed tonight when I did their bed-check that she was actually snuggled up against Dolly which is a rarity since she’s kind of a bee-otch and the others give her plenty of space at night.
It made me almost wish I had a few more chickens.
Poor thing. Hopefully her big blowout means she'll get them in faster.

Well I am nuts. It's official.

I drove 200 miles out and brought back an 8 week old black and tan coon hound.

Her name is Tilly. We got vet papers with her. So far the other dogs have sniffed her til the new dog smell is gone but exactly zero aggression.

Nothing will make me stop missing my old guy. I still have room to love Tilly though.
Aren't you the same person who said they weren't getting a dog anytime soon? LOL Congrats on your new pup!

Gross. I've seen them at walmart before, but I try not to look b/c it creeps me out (same w/ the pig feet).. but I'm certain I've never noticed bumbles on any of them.

I feel like I should be notifying SOMEONE!
You should. I'd email the corporate office from their website. Go here:
https://corporate.walmart.com/contact-us/store-corporate-feedback
I think you want product question/ product feedback..
Tell them what the problem is and that you have a photo. Include the medical info about bumblefoot. I would *hope* that anyone buying the feet would know about bumble, but the store employees should also be aware.

Good morning, peeps!

It's COLD outside. Willow needs a sweater, lol.

Poor thing.

Good grief - Walmart is out of it's mind for offering that. Don't they know anything about bumble food? :sick:sick:sick:sick:sick:sick
Not necessarily. It's like going to tractor supply and the chick bins being marked leghorn when all the chicks in the bin are black. If no one tells them then they don't know.

Yes, I'm one of those weirdos.
Same. And I can't help but look at that and thing HOWWWWW can someone have blackheads that bad and not do something about it sooner. I'd be covering my face in biore strips or the black mask stuff.

My go to is the wide set hair pins. Although, over the past few years, my acne and blackhead are a lot better. Maybe with having a kid I have less time to stare at my face in a mirror.

I prefer to go after DH's pimples and blackheads instead, they are more fun and easier to get.
